I keep reading different interpretations on whether W8 does a trim command or defrag using the new "optimization" utility (formally defrag). Is there a DEFINITE answer on this ?

Thanks

Yes, Windows 8 has full TRIM support. It doesn't defrag an SSD, that's mostly pointless. If you open up Defrag, it has an "Optimize" button rather than a "Defrag" button for SSD's.
