Having tried out both 32 and64 bit versions,I dug out an old copy of XP to load up and activate. In the UK the price is £49.99 for an OEM upgrade available from retailers. When I googled win 8 I found the Microsoft site Buy Windows - Microsoft Windows The price of a download is £24.99 which in the UK is pretty good. Following the links gets you into billing address form (name/address/email etc.) I should have smelt a rat as the last part stated state/province/prefecture,none of which apply to anyone in the British Isles. We have counties only. Also Zip code was mentioned which we do not have.Putting the postcode in which we do have was rejected as invalid. After trying 3 times I gave up. Has anyone succeeded in buying win 8 through this site?

Just a FYI. If you access that site with a 32bit OS you will only get a 32bit upgrade and the same for 64bit.

Solved the problem with the address: just leave a gap in the postcode. Staying with 32 bit is no real problem as win 8 is not going to be my principle os.Dual booting win7 and xp using separate ssds has slight problems as 7 64bit likes ACHI and xp does not.I have made a switch to run one ssd at a time. Upgrading to win 8 solves this and is more secure. I consider changing 7 to 8 to be a downgrade but a definate upgrade from xp. I only have desktop and no touchscreen.
