Windows 7 desktop after Windows 8 upgrade

When I upgrade my Windows 7 to Windows 8 is the desktop I see in Windows 8 my Windows 7 desktop or a blank Windows 8 desktop?

Found my answer. The Win 7 desktop is replaced with a blank Win 8 desktop.

??? What you will see is the Metro/Modern desktop with Live tiles and a Desktop tile at bottom left you can click on to get to the Windows 7 style desktop. Like this:

Not sure why you think you will see a blank Win 8 desktop.

By a blank Win 8 desktop I meant that my shortcuts and other items I current have on my Win 7 desktop will not be transfered over to the Win 8 desktop. An employee at a Windows store told me this.

I updated from win 7 to win 8 (64-bit) and found that my Desktop looked exactly as it did under win 7, with the exception that all gadgets had been deleted/removed. They can be re-installed (if you REALLY need them) via this link: Most Wanted Windows Desktop Gadgets - Windows 8, Windows 7 and Windows Vista

After an upgrade upgrade , you will have much of what you had on the desktop of Win7. I can't remember for sure if shortcuts were removed, but I think not. I ended up doing a clean reinstall. I can't even remember if the Desktop icons were there. Shortcuts and Desktop icons are, of course, pretty easy to get back in general.
