Downloaded US install via VPN from overseas. Causing app store probs?

I live in Korea, but wanted to make sure I got an all-English install of Windows 8 for my upgrade. While still in Windows 7, I used my VPN, which makes me a California IP address, and downloaded from MS. Since installing, I have had many problems with the app store connecting. It seems as if it will no longer connect to the app store unless I have my VPN on.

I know from previous experience that if I install Media Center in in Win7 using my VPN and downloading US install files, I get a far more useful/functional TV channel list including US TV shows and content that I can access using my VPN. If I do not install Media Center using the US download from the get-go, I never get a look at these shows.

It seems that Windows 8 app store content is dependent on country location, and that other updates and services are tied-in, correct?

Or is the app store simply offline a lot and very buggy? Once apps are installed, they usually work. I just cannot seem to access the app store much. It usually says I do not have an internet connection, but I do, and I can surf and use installed apps fine.

Have I hosed myself? Will I be able to fix this, or will I forever be tied to a US app store with this serial number seeing as how so much info is saved in my account and applied afte a reinstall.

Should I reinstall from scratch? Can I? Or is the app store just plain going offline for everyone?

Thanks

FYI... I changed my location settings, in at least one (and possibly two) places, and now I'm on the Korean app store with familiar Korean apps in Hangul. Seems they are running and installing fine, too. No reinstall was needed.

Just for those who are curious... seems like there are different app stores, much like the Playstation Network. There is more content on the US side, with more news, X-box movie, and TV apps, if I'm seeing it right. Many media apps must be blocked for legal reasons and whatnot. Not sure if you can switch between different app stores or not. As I mentioned, my original download of Win8 was over VPN, so it came from the US. Not sure if there are non-US versions that are different in what they will allow you to do with the local app stores.
