    Boot Time Problem

Hi there, posting in hopes of resolving some problems I've had since installing on Friday.

I'm on a Lenovo laptop (Y560 model, almost two years old). My computer takes 5-10 minutes to boot each time. The boot screen with the Win8 logo and all passes very quickly, but it doesn't actually proceed to my lock-screen until 5 minutes later. Since Friday, I've tried reducing the start-up delay, or timeout, and have removed a bunch of intensive startup programs in hopes that it would help. So far, nothing.

My other problems are with Lenovo drivers. Some simply do not want to work. My trackpad consistently stops working no matter how many times I update/reinstall the driver and my camera doesn't work now, either. These, and a few other things Lenovo-related, are struggling immensely.
    [Okay on this front, now]

Any clues? I'd really like to avoid refreshing and losing all of my programs (or apps, as they're now calling them?).

EDIT: Boot time problem is solved. I got frustrated and decided to try the old power discharge trick (remove peripherals, battery and hold power button) and that worked like a charm. Computer booted in about 10 seconds. Now I'm left with the trackpad problem. It's still getting shut off about 3 seconds after boot for some reason.

EDIT 2: Welp, that worked once. Back to my 10 minute boot time, so that's open season again.

Did you do an upgrade install? Or a clean install? Lots of people have had problems with upgrade installs. Clean installing fixes the problem.

Have you updated the computers BIOS to the latest version?

I did indeed to an upgrade install. I don't have a means to back up my files right now (no access to an external), so a clean install wasn't really an option at the time and I didn't anticipate the problems. That was probably a little silly on my part.

I believe the BIOS is updated, but I could double check. Thanks for your reply.

Wondering if there's a known solution for the trackpad problem? I could live with the other problems until I have access to an external and can do a clean install, but can't use a USB mouse all of the time.

Does Lenovo have updated Synaptic drivers for your laptop?

I've used the most up-to-date drivers accessible, from uninstalling on my computer and allowing it to recognize the hardware again to downloading and updating directly from Lenovo's site. :/

I can tell that there's something that is turning it off. What's weird is that the scroll and buttons still work, just no response from the pad itself when it comes to moving the mouse. It always works for anywhere up to 5 seconds after login to about a minute. Something then seems to load and shut it off. I've tried Fn+F6, but it doesn't enable or disable it either way.

It sounds like you may be having a problem with hybrid boot (aka Fast Startup). By default, Windows uses hybrid boot mode rather than a full shutdown. This writes the state of the kernel to the hibernate file.

Appreciate the suggestion, I'm running some scans to clean up my disk and I've turned that setting off. Will try it out in the morning and report back. Thanks for all of the help so far!

    Alrighty, time for an update.

I've since resolved [I hope] my trackpad problem. After wiping and reinstalling the driver a few more times it has worked well. Not sure why it was different, but I guess persistence can pay off.

As for the boot problem, I'm still experiencing about a 10 minute boot time after turning off hybrid boot and running multiple disk scans, defragmenting and MSE + Malwarebytes just in case. Picked up one item on the Malwarebytes scan, but removing it did not solve the problem. I've tried booting a few times with hybrid turned off with no difference. Thinking a clean install is my only option?

What's weird is that discharging all of the power gave me one really clean boot. Does this tell anyone anything about what may be causing the problem?
