    Open Windows Explorer in root folder?

    I cannot find how to open root folder instead of the libraries folder. It seems the way I did it in Win7 will not work. Any ideas. Thanks.

    Hello Gary, and welcome to Eight Forums.

    What were you wanting it to open to?

    Windows Explorer Taskbar Icon - Change Open To Target - Windows 7 Forums

    If C, then use:

    C:\

    If Computer, then use:

    %windir%\explorer.exe shell:MyComputerFolder

    or

    %windir%\explorer.exe /n,::{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

    What I want to do is have the C: drive expanded when I open Windows explorer.

    Ok. You can use C:\ in properties, but also right click on an empty area in the navigation pane, and check the Expand to current folder option. This will have File Explorer open to C:\ with it expanded in the navigation pane as well.

    this works for opening explorer.exe on C:\ drive expanded but only for the icon on the taskbar, if it is pinned to the start screen, it doesn't work.

    Hello Tcman,

    Odd it works fine for me from the Start screen as well. The key is to have the Expand to current folder option checked in the navigation pane.
