    Numlock - silly little error

    Hello.
Just installed my downloaded Windows 8 Pro (clean install), and I got a little problem. How to turn NumLock ON at boot? I have a pincode instead of the long password for my live-account, so I want to use the numbers before logging in.

Come on, guys. Nobody know of any settings that might help?
It is NOT in the BIOS, as I have a dualboot with Windows 7, and in win7 Numlock in on by default, but not in win8.

I have checked the setting in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\CONTROL PANEL\Keyboard "Initialkeyboardindicators" and in win7 it has a value of 2, and in win8 it also has this value, så it might not be there to change. Numlock is of course turned off BEFORE logging in, so where do I look?
    TIA

Are there any answers to this? I am also finding that Windows 8 turns off NumLock automatically, even though it is on in the BIOS and the indicator light is also on until Windows starts booting. I tried changing Initialkeyboardindicators to 2 but that didn't help.

Toggle Keys at Startup - Vista Forums

I had the same problem in win7, so BRINK send me this link that has a working solution, even it is for Vista.
Try it and see if it works in windows 8 also

Did you try to reinstall the driver/software in compatibility mode?

@Burgurne - no, that did not work.

@bassfisher6522 - reinstall the keyboard driver? I checked with Device Manager, and it says I have the latest driver installed. I'm using whatever keyboard driver Windows 8 installed for this computer.

That's the problem there...those are generic drivers which do not include any software needed to interact with the device and OS. The driver needs to be downloaded directly from Logitech.

I don't have a Logitech keyboard. It's actually a Unicomp -- equivalent to an IBM Type M but USB instead of PS2.

I just searched Bing for "numlock lock windows 8 on" and found many hits that gave solutions that add a registry key for this function.
It's not rocket science afterall, nor is it a Windows 8 peculiar issue. I saw it back in the XP days.

Sorry about that...that was the OP specs, that's were I got the Logitech keyboard from. Try googling for Unicomp keyboard drivers...or got with the registry edit that you found.
