@PJL, no, it's not rocket science. But it doesn't work for me. If you filter through the "hits" you mention, you'll find a few with the same complaint, that the solution doesn't work on Windows 8 for them either.

I'd be interested in hearing from someone who has used the registry fix solution on Windows 8 and confirmed that it works. Have you tried it? I'd love to figure out what the conflict is if it is confirmed to work for others with Windows 8. I am particularly interesting in having NumLock on when the desktop opens (I don't much care about the Metro Start screen). (Hmmm. I'm using Start8. I wonder if that is related? I'll see if I can disable Start8 to check that out.)

@bassfisher6533, I've found no drivers specific to the Unicomp keyboards. I'll try some other keyboards from my stash tomorrow and see if they operate any differently.

A registry hack worked for me.

ok, I wonder what the difference is? It's helpful to have a positive report, so I now know it's something specific to my configuration.

I'll try to do some research and post back if I get something.

I decided it was easier to punt and run a job to set numlock on at logon, using a numlock utility I found on the web. (There are probably lots of such utilities; I just picked the first one I found.)

I did encounter one interesting quirk: if I just run "numlock on" after booting, it doesn't turn numlock on. I must first turn it off with "numlock off" before turning it back on.

I have gone into regedit and the value was right. Nothing is working. I know I just have to turn on num lock when I log on but I have a pin number. Go figure thought it would be easier.
