Uh, well, now I'm trying to shut down my computer, but can't find out how after installing Windows 8? Can anyone tell me? Thanks!

Go to bottom right corner, the charms bar appears, click on settings (gear icon), select power at the bottom.

I think you can also just press the power button, no?
That's considered a "hard reset" and isn't the proper way to shut the computer down.

That depends on how its set in the BIOS. Mine is set so you have to hold the button down for 4 seconds before the power supply shuts off.
In Windows Power Options I have set "When I press the power button" to "Shut Down". A momentary press of the power button will have Windows do a normal graceful shut down.
