I don't understand the fuss myself. The start screen is 1 big start menu.

My problem with it is the fact it is full screen. If it weren't, I wouldn't have as much problem with it. I'd still dislike it, but I could deal with it.

Since I'm already a fan of hot keys and the run command, and since I generally just hit the Windows key instead of clicking on the start menu (in Windows 7), I can honestly say I like how Windows 8 runs and has operated with my previous position (using Windows 8 on a dual-Xeon workstation with two 24" WS displays) and my current position (using it on my HP ProBook).
Thanks, Kebero. You saved me some typing. Ditto, except for the hardware.

I really miss my old workstation. It was a very nice setup, especially with the displays. Once in landscape for working space and one in portrait for Outlook and SCSM (this was an enterprise tech support position with law enforcement).

The new start screen is too big. It's damn full screen. Why does it have to be that? Well, because Microsoft just added the UI from a tablet friendly device and put it on a desktop.

When it's full screen, I waste space, a bit more resources. I'd like a Metroish kind of start menu, but not a full screen one.

This poll is interesting to me, but it doesn't substantively or clearly get at what I'd most like to know in relation to having a desktop start menu and our proclivities to accept Windows 8 in a post-purchase, Windows 8 in-use environment. In conducting this poll, I am trying to get at the...
With all the hub bub about the missing Start Menu in Windows 8, I though I'd pose this simple question? If Windows 8 had the start menu would you be more inclined to accept it? To clarify, if Windows 8 had a Start menu included from factory (no 3rd party apps)
