    Can't run downloaded files

I just did a clean install of Win 8 Release Preview, 64 bit. I moved my profile from C: (SSD) to d: (HDD) using a recommendation I found in the forum. I did not move the program data. I wanted to download and install some programs, but when I do, I can't get them to run. They are setup .exe programs. In IE if I click to open, nothing happens. I clicked on View Downloads in IE and it opens a Window with the downloads and if I try to open one a list is shown that asks how do you want to open this file and a list of programs like IE, Notepad, Paint, etc.

I've pre-ordered Win 8 to install when it is shipped.

Can you post a link to web page of the recommendation you followed to move profile from c: to d:.

User Profiles - Relocate to another Partition or Disk

It worked, although it's a complicated procedure, the instructions are very explicit and include screen shots.. I had already installed Win 8, so I had to follow the extra step. I wonder if I'll have to do a clean install on the final release? I wish I knew how to do this on my older Win 7 computer. It has a smaller SSD and I'm constantly moving folders and changing the pointers to them.

I just right click and move documents, downloads, music, pictures, and videos. Windows automatically re-links them.

The linked thread is interesting but also many problems are reported by users !
The thread should be read from beginnig till end.

I have not done relocation of users folder myself so cannot help further.

The issue may require a clean install, (please correct me if I am wrong) but the profile transfer may have caused the issue and if so, will you need this profile?

    Here it is,
Microsoft does not recommend relocating, moving Program Files, Program Files (x86) and Windows folders. Too much is depending on information and data stored on these three folders. However, there's simply nothing preventing us to move the other three. In this tutorial we move, relocate, the Programdata and Users folders.

Moving both Users and ProgramData folders can save a lot of space on system disk. Pictures, mp3ís videos, documents and so on, a user folder with its subfolders can be tens, sometimes hundreds of gigabytes.

Personally, when installing Windows 8 I always use Audit Mode to relocate Users and ProgramData, leaving system drive only for Windows and applications.
