I just registered for the W8 Pro to be released 26 Oct. I got this offer of $14.99 because I just bought a new
HP P2-1117BC desktop with W7 Home x64 4GB 1TB Hard Drive so I thought I would give it a shot.

I have never done a complete OS replacement so off to a new adventure. When I receive this will it contain info
about the installation.

Thanks

It is easy, I`m using Win Prox64 right now, during install you will see a box to choose your HDD ( if you have multiple ) find it , delete both partitions, ( This is for clean install, no programs saved , flies etc...) because win7 has a smaller system partition than win8, make a partition , use max size, first click, format new partition, then click next and follow prompts, easy. Win 8 req key before install, put in windows live email address (live, hotmail, msn , all the same)

  • After customer registration and Microsoft validation, customers will receive a registration confirmation email.
  • Beginning October 26, 2012, registered customers will receive an email with a promotion code and instructions for purchasing and downloading the software. The promotion code can be redeemed during the upgrade ordering process to receive the promotional price.
  • Customers will be able to purchase a downloadable version of Windows 8 Pro. An optional installation DVD is available for an additional fee, plus shipping and any applicable taxes or duties. Customers can also choose to create their own installation media on DVD or USB media after downloading Windows 8.

As I read this it appears I can directly download W8 to my system then make my own DVD backup copy

What do you mean by "A little different"? Your first question didn't mention anything about the media, or downloading or anything... i'm a little confused by what your asking, or saying.

I was referring to the partioning. As I read the statement the download will overide and erase all W7 and replace it with W8

You shouldn't need to partition. As an upgrade it will install over Windows 7. Since I haven't seen the upgrade disc I can only guess it will behave like previous Windows upgrades: run Setup from either the Windows 8 Upgrade DVD or from the downloaded file, and it will guide you through the process.

When the Win7 upgrade version was made available as a download, it could be downloaded in two forms: an executable, and an .iso (disk image).

If it's the same for Windows 8, my suggestion: get the .iso. You can use it to create a bootable DVD (or USB flash drive) which is the same as a boxed DVD, including diagnosis and repair utilities. I believe that the executable installer is much more limited.
