He wont provide me his password so i can log on and restore and clean up the PC and to remove him and add myself:mad:.

The PC doesnt has a disk drive as its a Nettop so i cant user a restore disk or anything.

First of all, you were ripped off. Did the guy who sold you this thing give you any reason for not divulging the password? You should notify Ebay.

Second of all, Windows 8 has not been released yet, so if this thing is running Windows 8, it is a preview or eval version, and you'd have to buy it sooner or later anyway.

Presumably this thing has USB ports? You can download the eval version of Win8 and burn it to a USB key and install that way.

Thanks for your response sgage , He didnt know , he said that he didnt have time to wipe the pc , he did include a disk that should clear everything and reinsgtall windows 8 ( i think it is the preview version ) , however i dont have a disk drive to connect to the pc.

Yeah it has 4 usb ports , will i be able to open the usb key on the pc without being able to log on to access the desktop screen?

Plenty of ways to clear a password, when you have done that - you will be into the o/s - but how can it be genuinely activated as it hasn't gone on sale yet?

In addition win8 is nasty on a laptop/desktop.

You might be able to recover to the previous o/s - hopefully windows 7, find out what o/s the product key on the machine is for ( a sticker somewhere - often under the battery ).

If you have the windows 7 product key - you are in luck and can download the windows 7 installation .ISO from digital river - official free download channel for MS. Official Windows 7 SP1 ISO from Digital River « My Digital Life

I'm sure there's a way to boot from USB. You'll need another computer to download the Win8 iso and burn the USB key. SIW2's comments are all relevant as well. Must be some way to reanimate this thing...

Thanks both , the original OS is Linux RevoBoot according to the box. Am i able to burn this to a usb stick and reinstall it ?

The guy did provide a disk with the Windows 8 Product key too but i cant use the disk as the Nettop doesnt have a diskdrive , do you know any decent sites i can down load the Windows 8 ISO from?

SIW2 when you say there are plenty of ways to clear a password , can you name a few please? Im pretty basic when it comes to stuff like this , When i turn the pc on it comes up with the previous users log on name and asks for his password , i have no idea how to get around this , the only options i have apart from entering the correct password are to either shut down or restart.

It will run off the linux based recovery media for you onto cd or flash - don't bother trying to make the pe version it will take you too long.

There will be some key you press while booting that will enable you to boot from different devices. On my computer, it's the ESC key, but it's probably different for you. You may even need to go into your BIOS settings to allow boot from USB - a different key during boot. A little googling should figure it out...

The Windows 7 DVD Download Tool will let you create a bootable USB thumb drive from your ISO image. It was made for Windows 7 but works for Windows 8 ISO images also. It can be picky sometimes if the ISO image was modified. Once you download your Windows 8 ISO image you can use this utility to create your install media. It doesn't include the ISO image or product code. If you are going to reinstall Windows 8 I would use the Release Preview.
