Windows 7 games won't work on Windows 8

The problem is that Max Payne 3 and Sleeping Dogs were installed on my Windows 7 x64 but when I dual booted Windows 8, they wont work in Windows 8 even if I set the Compatibility Mode for Windows 7 for these games.

I know that running the setup and installing it again in Windows 8 would solve the problem, but I got rid of the setups once I installed them.

    Thanks in advance.

There's not much you can do. Dual booting means two completely different installations of the OS. Most games need to configure the OS to work with it, such as inserting various registry entries, and installing specific DLL's in the system. Unless the app is specifically designed to re-configure itself if it doesn't detect these, you must re-run the installation.

so I need to hold two different installations of the same game which would cover up twice the size in HDD, am I correct?

You are correct. Each OS install us a separate environment.

Have you tried older DirectX for gaming that will install in 8?

No, you should be able to install both versions to the same directory, so it will only take up a single amount of space.

    Hi there
you could try seeing if the games will run on a Virtual machine.

Install W7 on say VMware's free VMPLAYER or on VBOX (also free). The advantage of a VM is that you don't have to dual boot.

Now I'm not sure how video intensive these games are so they might not run in a VM but it doesn't take much time to try it.

Just install a base Windows 7 vm -- don't bother with any special applications - and then install your games and see if they run
won't take you more than an hour or two so if it doesn't work you haven't wasted too much time --and in any case you would have learned a little about Virtual Machines.

    Cheers
