Windows RT may actually get there...

Unreal Engine 3 ported to Windows RT - Neowin

Gaming wise that is. This is an article about Unreal 3 gaming engine running on ASUS' new WinRT tablet. If I must say. WOW.

NVIDIA's Tegra quad core ARM processor is quite a thing!

Once the game developers being with WinRT, and once Microsoft ports over Office into WinRT, the floodgates will open for Photoshop, AutoCAD, video converting software, tax software, VLC media player, utorrent, and everything else will come. This is kind of exciting to see the new future of Windows and what it can evolve to and what it can evolve on.

    I can't W8!

Office is already on Windows RT tabs-microsoft has unfairly allowed Office to use win32 APIs

Photoshop, AutoCAD, video converting software, tax software, VLC media player, utorrent-will never run in winRT. Well, maybe tax software will, but not the rest.

The Microsoft store will be selling desktop apps as well (at some point, probably soon). So yes... Most software is sold on line now days anyway.

Though I'd almost rather still buy it from the manufacturer directly though. Why give MS 1/3 of the money when they really aren't doing much to deserve it. If it were maybe 5 or 10% like sales tax or something it might be ok.

This isn't a scaled down, limited mobile port. It's the full "desktop" engine, meaning easy porting (no having to re-code the entire game for the iOS version of the engine, for example), and it's running on an ARM. This is actually a big deal, as the U3 engine is pretty popular.

I'm not sure I see a problem with this, but to each his or her own.

I'm not sure why software CAN'T run in the new environment. WinRT is an API set (and a product name... which is interesting in a weird way), and the app can be the obvious HTML/JS, but it can also be .net languages or full-on C/C++ native code. The reason you'd probably want to use the latter would be a lack of a need to do much (if any) re-coding for Intel and ARM, which you'd have to do if you used native code. However, if a dev really did want to write a nice big app and didn't want to go the .net route, native code is still an option, even for ARM - the only thing that isn't is creating a desktop app (which makes sense - most ARM devices will be tablets with limited keyboard/mouse support on most, so making a mouse-specific app in a touch tablet environment makes little sense).
