Windows 8 Gaming Problems with Steam Games

    Hey all,
I've labored over this for some time, and still couldn't find a solution. Ever since I've installed Windows 8, after reinstalling steam and all of my games, they haven't been able to run. I'll launch the games, and they will run in the background but not display themselves. I've never connected this laptop to any other display, and am running DirectX11 with an Nvidia GeForce GT 555M graphics card.
Does anyone know anything about this? I would really appreciate the help.
    Cheers,
    DCook18

I have steam installed and few games, showing no issues with them, have Win 8.1 Pro. What do you mean by running in back round, hear sound and no picture ? Some games require Microsoft Visual C ++ different dated version, plus some need DirectX 9c. Within Steam in library, right click game select Properties ,local files then verify integrity of game cache. Also check steam support, make sure graphics card has latest drivers and can also try to reinstall the games.

There are many people, including me, who has been running Steam under Windows 8 since the OS's release without any issues. In short, Steam is very compatible with Windows 8. That said, as suggested you might try updating your video card drivers, as well as any other drivers to include soundcard. Additionally, even though Steam does it for you when you install any game, you might try updating the Direct X files.

You can see my guide here for links, and other game troubleshooting tips - Tips on Troubleshooting Game Issues.

Again, there are no compatibility issues between Steam and Windows 8.

Oh, and it would help if you gave us specific game titles that you were having problems with because, even though they may run through Steam, there could still be issue with the actual game itself, which has nothing to do with Steam.

    Thanks.

Steam tends to also update frequently. When installing a game through steam usually if anything is not on the system like DirectX 9c or 10 it will install it along with Microsoft Visual C++ . Did say all games were doing this, true be nice to know which you have. Have any games do not require Steam, how do they run ? Yes, there are times when might not install all needed components, so reinstalling games may help, unless some other conflicting software or drivers. Most games will not run you will get an error if something is missing on your system that is needed.

Now if video card issue it should affect other media players and general picture on the system.
