DirectX re-installation 4 Win 8.1

Hello Forum,
Need some kind support here as I've just managed to use my newly bought laptop with window 8.1, 64bit. With the current specs of this lappy I tried my old game Company of Heroes 1 but upon installation can't play the game due to a window message claiming the need for me to verify my DirectX installation. Hence i'm here to ask if there is a need for me to uninstall and install again my DirectX 11.

If there is already another thread to have solved this issue kindly redirect me, apologies for i may have overlooked, thank you in advance for the consideration shown

That's a DirectX 9 game, not recognizing DX 11 in W8.1. You can try W7 compatibility mode or a install of Dx9, it should be there on the disks for the game. It is not going to ruin Dx11, may ad some files to it only. Or maybe Relic Entrainment may have some patch.

As suggested reinstall DX9 and update chipset and GPU drivers.

FYI: DirectX 11 is backwards compatible so it will run DX9, 10, and obviously 11 games. See my game troubleshooting guide here, starting at step #5. Anyway you can just update the DirectX files here - DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer

And typically you do not have to run in Win 7 compatibility mode just to get a DX9 game to run. I say "typically" because it's more dependent on the game itself, than DX as to whether to use Compatibility Mode. I've got a number of DX9 games running in Windows 8.1 just fine without running in any compatibility mode.

In short compatibility mode is more dependent on the game than DX mode.
