Hi, I love the new Windows 8 Consumer preview, I was wondering if it was build to run games yet because I have had a lot of lag issues on windows 8. Will this get better or is this the best gaming performance?

Hi,

You can't capture a game and then post it as proof of lag. The capture process itself is a huge hit.

You can install the video driver:

Drivers - GeForce

Newer version: NVIDIA GeForce 301.24 Beta 64-bit download from Guru3D.com

Gaming is excellent on Windows 8. It's your system. If you didn't install the driver yet, it will fix it. I would choose the second link to install from.

Type msinfo32 in the start menu then press enter. File | save on the opened screen. Zip or rar the saved file then attach here. Something is obviously wrong if your games aren't playing at least decently on your hardware. I should be able to figure it out.

It might be normal to be laggy as Midtown Madness 2 was released almost 10 years ago maybe more compability issues happen. Have you tried other games than Midtown Madness? I play Battlefield 3 and Skyrim on Windows 8 X64 CP without any problem. I recommend you to try another game which is newer, then it will be easier to focus on source of the problem.

Hi, I am going to get a new graphics card soon because my old one has been overheating for many months and has started to have graphics bugs on games that do work. it has reached 80 - 90 degrees so that is most likely the problem.

I installed the original Diablo CD (designed for Windows 95). But to get the color right, I had to use the compatibility mode for Windows 7 basic. The latest patches only took it that far, and it works fine. Since your game worked all right on Windows 7, when you're in Windows 8 go online and look for patches and updates and see what mode they advise you to run in.

Ok, I have found windows xp compatibility patch, installed it, it makes things better and the game runs good but when I crash into something or go over a bump in the road, it crashes for about 5 seconds then goes back to normal. It is very annoying.

Thanks

so far i've run borderland, trine2 and skyrim without issue on Win8 CP - using AMD 6870 Win8 official beta drivers

I've been able to install old 32-bit games I enjoy, and some of them have problems. But they also had problems on Win 7 and even XP. Usually I can solve the problem. Most 16-bit games wont run on any of them.

Quite a few games run some won't and some you will have lag with because of weird performance issues caused by a list of different things. That is pretty much the short answer for you. Some games you can fight with and they will run ok but I wouldn't expect a lot just yet.

When the RC is released you should see a lot better compatibility and less weird performance issues and by then video drivers for 8 should be getting a bit more solid. For me the CP is to soon so I went back to 7 for stability because I need to get work done on this machine and couldn't and I was having a bit of issues with games I play. I am waiting on the release because I will get 8 and use it but I won't do that until the release now.
