BF3 Memory Issues

I am wdering if someone here can help. I just got Battlefield 3 and I am having major memory issues with it. I have 8gb of memory and yet when I play the game it will hog memory until it locks up the system. I just watched it use all but 500mb of memory! And once I crashed the game out it would not release the memory either I was still only at 2gb of 8 free.

I don't get this at all the game is 32bit and that should mean it is limited to 4gb of memory correct? Or maybe it uses memory and then doesn't release it and uses more? This is driving me insane and I can't play the game like this.

Is there a way to limit the amount the game can access or a program to scrub the memory that works in 8?

Hi,

Sounds to me like there is a system issue. You're welcome to type msinfo32 in the start menu, press enter and then file | save on the opened screen. Zip the file and attach here. I'll have a look.

And no, the operating system is 64 bit and that's what gives your pc the ability to access more than the ~ 4GB ram. It's not program dependent, but rather, OS (and hardware) dependent.

Is this what you want to look at?

Also I meant aren't 32bit apps limited to only 4gb of memory as in aren't the apps programmed to only use so much memory so you would think it wouldn't exceed that.

But I noticed the memory doesn't free up when the game is closed. I think that is the issue it isn't releasing memory every time.

You can re-read my response above about 32/64 bit. If it isn't too clear - all programs on your pc can use all of your memory.

I see your issue already in under 1 second of seeing the file opened. Uninstall AVG in safe mode with the special tool to do so. Reboot to normal mode then type services.msc in the start menu then press enter. Set the Windows Firewall and Windows Defender services to Automatic and start them too. Enjoy.

So antivirus is my issue? If I uninstall it that leaves me unprotected just to play a game. Not sure I like the idea. I had this trouble with avira and I removed it and installed avg since avg seems to work in the consumer preview.

I wonder if there is another antivirus that would work and wouldn't cause this issue. A friend is running avg with win7 and has no issue.

By the way can you enlighten me a bit on how you were able to find the cause? Would be nice if I could look at the file and find issue on my own.

I found the cause by extensive knowledge only. Nothing there to tell ya how to do with anything.

AVG has been bsoding machines left and right and your issue falls into that kind of category. It's a failing product that touches everything you do.

If my instructions are followed to the tee, your machine will be in an excellent state of security. I wouldn't leave you in any other state.

A quote I've been saying for years and years: "Many 3rd party security solutions are far worse than actual malware."

Hello guys, I have a bit different problem. I can't even launch the game (BF3) it always says that it stopped working ... It seems it's loading for a while but then it crashes. I've updated graphic drivers , chipset , everything seems to be ok ... I waas trying to run it as administrator and in Win7 compatibility, but it doesn't work anyway. Any help would be appriciated.

MSE is now built into windows 8 so you technically don't need to install an antivirus program. If you open control panel and go to windows defender, you will see they have consolidated Defender and MSE into one package. It works pretty good now. I run it and our corporate forfront/endpoint product (corp version of MSE) and they look and work identical, only difference is I get my updates from our SCCM server vs MS's website.
