Whops! Scratch that one. When you try to go down to level three, it locks up. I've tried four times and can't get through. I've never had any problem with Diablo before on any other computer or operating system.

Nope, Windows 8 is innocent!
About half of the Cd is a single file. If the CD is failing with age, is scratched or dirty, or has any problem, your optical drive can't read the file. Carefully cleaning the CD solved the problem.
