Metro games gives laggy but sometimes good fps

My computer is a Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro

    8gb ram
    Core i54210U 2.40 Ghz
    128GB SSD
    Intel HD graphics

when playing Metro apps such as pinball FX2, or Dungeon Hunter 4 or Six Guns, the frame rate is playable but not smooth.

Once in a while, the frame rate suddenly improves dramatically for a few seconds, like no lag at all, before going back to the lower frame rate.

I'm assuming the higher frame rate is a sign that my computer is capable of playing these games at a better fps.

what can I do to achieve these higher frame rates with my existing hardware?

I've tried setting priorities in the task manager to no effect.

I've updated to latest drivers from lenovo website, and performance has improved slightly.

what resolution are you running at? lowering it will help, especially since you have Intel graphics.

reducing resolution seems to badly affect aspect ratio.

3200x1800 is 16:9. So any 16:9 resolution will work. 1920x1080 would be a great candidate.

I think it's just the programming wit the pinball game. other games seem to run fine.

Hello! It seems that old games support is totally butchered on windows 8 and 8.1. They run but slowly. Desperados was unplayable for example. (I suffered through it with wineD3D and broken UI) No One Lives Forever is playable but has crappy framerates. Less than 30, which sometimes drops below...

All applications metro interface works without problems, but all games fruit ninja style, jatpack joyride did not work. Game shows, and after a few seconds the game closes. And the computer returns to the Start menu. What could be the problem ? I was looking online and could not find an answer.
Evidently there are some really awesome games in the metro store, but I wouldn't really know because they all either fail to load or BSOD. Notable exceptions: Pirates Love Daisies, which is great and doesn't crash my system, and Cut The Rope, ditto. Mah Jong runs and is an ok game. Some games...
