So many metro games crash, screen res or graphics driver issue?

Evidently there are some really awesome games in the metro store, but I wouldn't really know because they all either fail to load or BSOD. Notable exceptions: Pirates Love Daisies, which is great and doesn't crash my system, and Cut The Rope, ditto. Mah Jong runs and is an ok game.

Some games (Trump, and Carmen Sandiego) loaded before I figured out how to install my manufacturer's graphics driver, with Win8 running the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter. MBDA failed to recognize my screen's native res of 1366/768, and set the res to 1024/768 (stretched). After updating the driver to Intel GMA 500 both games will launch, but then stall out on the loading screen, eventually reverting back to metro/start but still trying to load in the background.

Other games (Hive Mind) launch and load, but then BSOD when you try to play.
Cut the rope runs but gave me a low memory warning then ran perfectly without any lag.

All in all, this is really a lot of app failures considering that these games are supposed to be optimized for tablets.

You've said the magic term: BSOD

We will fix your machine easily for you. Please see the Crash And Debugging subforum. The top thread details what you have to do so we can fix it.

You can attach the zip requested to this thread here.

Ok, here are the log files.
I had just done a disk cleanup, so I reran the app before grabbing the logs to force a BSOD

It's your Intel Media Accelerator bugging out. (That's your video adapter driver in plain English, heh.)

    0: kd> lmvm igdkmd32
    start end module name
    8ba25000 8bac3680 igdkmd32 T (no symbols)
        Loaded symbol image file: igdkmd32.sys

Let Intel's site scan and it will likely give you a new driver to install:

If not, try a Windows Update....if that too doesn't, then let me know....we'll make it happen.

Also a great idea to update the Bluetooth network driver:

    btnetdrv btnetdrv.sys Wed Jun 17 01:59:35 2009

    and Marvell network driver:

    sd8686 sd8686.sys Fri Dec 05 04:22:27 2008

    and Realtek HD Audio:

    RTKVHDA RTKVHDA.sys Mon Jul 06 05:12:43 2009

Realtek <<< go to High Definition Audio Codec

    and Synaptics Touchpad driver:

    SynTP SynTP.sys Fri Oct 09 19:50:39 2009

    and IVT Bluetooth Bus Drivers:

    IvtBtBus IvtBtBus.sys Tue Aug 25 23:12:48 2009
    btnetBus btnetBus.sys Thu Sep 24 01:38:41 2009
    VcommMgr VcommMgr.sys Fri Aug 28 04:01:13 2009

and either update or uninstall the software that owns these drivers:

    ATOM_io_control ATOM_io_control.sys Fri Feb 13 07:38:44 2009
    ATOM_CTL ATOM_CTL.SYS Tue Nov 25 18:12:45 2008

    Updating the graphics driver fail

Ok, so I ran the driver update utility and it told me that I have graphics driver 945gm. that's not what my computer says, so I ran the utility again and it told me that I have GMA500, which is what I thought I have. I ran it a third time, and it crashed IE10. I restarted the computer but the update utility continues to crash IE10.
The latest available driver for the GMA 500 and 32 bit Windows 7 is version 5.0.0.2030. The version that I have installed is When I try to install 5.0.0.2030 (by going into device manager, let me pick, have disk), I get an error that says that "the specified folder doesn't contain a compatible software driver for my device. If the folder contains a driver, make sure it is designed towork with windows for 32-bit systems. If I try to run the driver installer by clicking setup.exe, I get an error that says that the operating system is not supported.

Updating through windows update says that windows has determined the driver software for my device is up to date.

I'll work on updating the rest of those drivers.

Hey ya, just awoke from a nap. So here's what to do -

Device Manager - Right click video adapter - Properties | Details tab

Change dropdown to say hardware ids. Copy/paste the results here.

It's either one of two things you've got going on there. Either the wrong driver installed, or since it is the latest as you say, then one of those other drivers I've shown is interfering with its proper operation and causing it to crash. I think it is the wrong driver because it is bug checking 0xD1 which is power state, and it's not a memory corruption type of deal.

So we will focus our abilities on the actual video driver and if the proves unfruitful, the focus shifts to the others, even though the others have to be updated regardless.

Yeah, definitely GMA 500. I would also update the motherboard bios if there is an available one. The drivers are the highest priority though.

Which are you having trouble with finding at the moment?

At any time, you can post a new crash dump(s) and we can see where you are at with things...and then take it from there.
