Solved Can't run hl.exe HELP!!!

Hey, when i double click on my game icon ( Half Life 1 ) nothing happens. the little loading circle shows up next to my cursor for a second but nothing happens it just won't launch!
i tried compatibility mode but nothing works. it worked before.
i'm using windows 8.1

yes i did but it didn't work.

Launch it and fastly right click your taskbar and go to task manager and see if the hl.exe task have wrotten behind it (notres[onding) in red?

nope, it just says half life launcher (32 bit)

Hi,

First off, is this the Steam based game or non-Steam based game?

Is it the Source version - Half-Life: Source?

I have the Steam based version of Half-Life: Source and it works very well under Windows 8.1. In fact I just checked it after reading this post and no issues.

Anyway let us know.

Oh, and it would help to know some system specs of your PC.

Yeah is the game cracked or not because cracked games have a lot of problems and i never used them.

Well for the record I wasn't thinking hacked. There are (were) basically 3 versions of this game...

1 - the standard, non-steam based game,
2 - the Steam based game, without the source engine
3 - the Steam based game utilizing the source engine

Thus my questions above. In my opinion, if you want an issue free experience with this old game, you need to get the Steam based Source game.

That said, you point is spot on.

Nevermind everyone i fixed, i turned on DEP and works
