    Monitor vs HDTV for gaming

    Hi there.

I have a 24 inch monitor and I am looking into getting another screen for a dual set up. My brother let me borrow his 24 inch HDTV/monitor and the picture looks great. I was thinking about getting the same one but before I do I wanted to make sure I am not overlooking things.

Are there any concerns about using a HDTV rather than a monitor? Are their things to be worried about a year down the road?

Technically no, just open some things with small text to see how clear the picture is, most TVs are not made with sufficient resolution to handle small stuff. Keep in mind that most games want to run on the primary display so you'll probably have to make TV primary and if it's not good enough for small text than you may have problem or would have to move applications to your now secondary display.

In my experience using a TV as a monitor wasn't as good as an actual monitor. Even with disabling all motion settings, setting the input to PC, and tweaking other things, there was always a noticeable input lag. I was using a 120Hz led tv as well. The response time wasn't as good as my pc monitor is. The picture looked great and all, I just couldn't get over the input lag from using a tv. Trying switching the input on your TV to PC and that will also make a difference for you. Just me, personally, I prefer using a monitor for my pc. Good luck!

Presently in connection to the survey it is completely trivial as gaming monitors are superior to anything all TVs in practically every way, having a survey would suggest that things like reaction time, clearness, refresh rate, input slack are subjective which isn't valid, the survey should state what's better, large screens or little screens, to that, it's totally up to the individual playing, and there are presumably an equivalent measure of contentions for either.

That's a hell no to HDTVs for gaming from me as well. I've tried it and it's just not a good experience after you get used to it and start noticing the flaws.
