Issue:

I am playing this game called BossRan. Basically, it is a private server from the Philippines. I have Windows 8 and when I try to open the Launcher, it just stays at loading and freezes. It slowly freezes my computer up! After researching and researching, I installed Windows 8.1 from an ISO I downloaded. It worked! But I prefer having the OEM OS which was the Windows 8 (the os the game don't work). Can you guys help me regarding this issue? I'm confused why does it work on 8.1 but not on 8. Also, my friend has Windows 8 too and it works for him and we both have the 64-bit version of the OS.

Here is the game site: BossRan,RAN,philippines,RANONLINE,RAN private server,EPX

I know it says it does not work on 64 bit trust me it does, they upgraded their game.

Computer Specs:

  • AMD A10-5700 APU with Radeon HD Graphics
  • AMD Radeon HD 7570 Graphics
  • Approx. 10gb RAM
  • Windows 8 64 bit installed

If you are trying to run games on Windows 8, you're in for a difficult road ahead. In 8.1, MS made HUGE compatibility improvements that fixed dozens of games. For example, almost no one could run Max Payne 1 or 2 in 8. I was working with Rockstar support and they were about to setup test rigs to see if they could find out the problem.

The day they were ready, 8.1 RTM was released. I loaded it up and both MP 1 & 2 worked flawlessly without even using compatibility mode. Well, MP1 had some cut scene sound issues, but that's it. I checked about 10-12 other games that had problems and they all ran fine. And there are many, many more that now run fine.

Trust me, you need 8.1. Here's a video: Windows 8 Game Compatibiity - 100 Tests - YouTube

First, at the op...

The BossRan game, I've no idea, never seen or heard of it. However, if the game is 16-bit be aware that Microsoft does not support 16-bit apps/games on a 64-bit OS.

Also, as OldGuyGeek says, Windows 8 has been severely updated by 8.1 to deal with a host of issues, which is probably why the game works on 8.1, but not on 8. So if the game works on 8.1, but not on 8, you might consider moving there. Personally I see no reason not to move to 8.1 as it is far better than 8.

Good luck.

As for this...

As a gamer myself I've had no issues playing games on 8 or 8.1. It just comes down to how old the game is, just as it was on Windows 7. Yeah you may run into a game that gives issues, but for the most part, if it ran on 7, it'll run on 8.

You can view this thread here to get an idea... http://www.eightforums.com/gaming/9683-info-games-support-windows-8-a.html. And the game that's listed to not work, actually do. Example all Valve games & Steam apps.

Here's my list of Steam games...

I also have an Origin account which includes all the Dragon Age, Mass Effect, and Dead Space games. I've also got STALKER, Halo 2, and a few oldies like Far Cry 2 running as well.

As I said, it just depends on the game, the older the harder to get running, as well as you PC/Laptop.
