Full-screen games having issues when windows pop up

Okay, I'm sorry if that title is a little vague but this is a really bizarre problem I've been having since I changed to Win8 and I can't really find anything on it.

So here's the deal, I use tweetdeck a lot, a twitter client for the desktop that notifies you of new tweets and such with a little pop-up screen. When I was using 7, I had no issue with it, but ever since I changed to 8, every time I'm playing a game in fullscreen and one of these little windows pop up, the screen flickers and then goes back to the game, as if I had alt-tabbed away from it.

I'm certain this would happen with other programs that make windows pop up, but I don't use any others, so I can't say for certain.

Is there anything I could do (besides the obvious of closing the program in question, that is) to fix this?

Hi Pheleos and welcome to the forum! First thing is why haven't you updated to 8.1? Don't know if it will fix your problem but at least you'll have the newest OS.

I've never run a pop-up program when gaming so forgive my ignorance. The obvious question I guess is do you have the latest graphics drivers installed? Taking a jab here but could anti-virus have anything to do with it?

Maybe someone with more experience on the subject will jump in.

Thanks for the welcome! I haven't been able to upgrade to 8.1 for some reason. I used to have it when I was running Windows 8 core (which came prepackaged with my laptop and I couldn't use language packs so I had to change to pro), the update itself won't show up on the store. Either way, the problem wasn't fixed when I upgraded from 8 to 8.1 before changing to 8 pro.

And yes, it's not an issue with the graphics drivers, I keep those up to date.

And it isn't the anti virus either because it still did that when I didn't have any running and when I was using another one than the one I'm currently using.

Again, I know it's a weird thing but it's been bugging me a lot (and obviously it affects games since it interrupts them for a couple seconds), but any help would be appreciated.
