Hi,
Arcanum ran fine with win7, but when I installed win8 it slowed down drastically and runs at about 6-10 fps. Planescape torment is the same. These games run, but at extremely low frame rates, making them unplayable.
As I said they ran fine with win7. I haven't changed anything.
I am running all the latest drivers and have run out of ideas.
:(Thanks

I just tried Arcanum on the Win8 consumer preview, and had all kinds of trouble. I did some searching and found out that it was one of the games that shipped with their own version of ddraw.dll. If you go into the game directory and rename draw.dll to ddraw.dll.old (or anything else), that might help. It worked great for me after that. Plenty high frame rate.

Planescape is one of the ones I got from GOG on one of their sales, but never actually installed and played it. I tried installing it, and it seems a little low on the frame rate, but playable. It seemed to me that it actually ran a bit faster with all the "software render" options turned on in the video options screen, but it wasn't a massive difference. It might have just been my imagination. I'll try it on Win7 so I can see the difference.

I found a fix for torment but my Arcanum folder has no ddraw file anywhere, I looked in every folder. It just aint there.

Hmm... the one from GOG.com definitely has a ddraw.dll in the same directory as the app. Perhaps it's part of the 1.0.7.4 patch? Have you installed that patch? There's also an unofficial hi-res patch; maybe the Gog version has that installed as well.

Out of curiosity, what was the fix for Planescape?
