Hi to all

Have been trying to install Call of Duty 2(1.2),Dirt and MotoGP 08 on the old rig that I am using. Without success.:(

My system specs do not meet the minimum specs for Dirt so really no chance of running that any way.

Both CoD2 and MotoGP 08 ran well under XP but after upgrading to window8 (.exe not .iso) I cannot manage to install any games that did work under XP pro sp3.

The game disics were inserted to drive and using the open folder to view files at autostart prompt the set up.exe was ran as administrator, the installer started for CoD2 but stopped because of a problem but no pop up box with error codes or advice to rectify, the motogp 08 installer was started the same as CoD2 and did see aaplication successfully installed but when I double click the desktop shortcu,t get start menu, click start the game starts loading but just after second intro(Nvidia) game crashes and windows tells me there was a problem but cannot be fixed go to Capcom for advice....

Have been searching online and feel the best hope of getting gaming starts here so...

Any advice on diagnosing and rectifying what could be stopping my games from working would be more than appreciated so thanks in advance.

The only prob with machine other than games not working was 1) updated printer driver to vista/7 to get printer working and 2)as I had no audio at all so had to edit a file regarding version dependencies.Following instructions from these forums.

I remember a couple of years ago I had the simmilar problem,

It was an a very low-rig laptop (but paid €1,200 for it around in 2003)
-> CoD2 would work via Windows XP but not on Vista or 7.

You could always dual boat into XP ... (also to note: if your current os is 8 and you install XP on other partition/drive/etc it may disable the boot menu, just edit it around

Thanks Mal.

A multi boot system with different games on different os is what works due to the limitations of either the game or os.
Have newer mobo now so been doing a lot of upgrading since op.
Updated to windows 8 rp and using Steam; CoD2 singleplayer looks and plays by far the best i have achieved yet. In fact i can now even run dx11 games under win8rp. Which is great for Showdown as it is dx11 only(will not run in xp).
Still do not understand how or why older games do not work on newer os. It is just the way it is. No harm in trying.

Hope you are enjoying windows 8 rp as much as i am.

Some games are just derp like that. For example, I remember that Fahrenheit (The Indigo Prophecy) worked on XP but not on Vista. Why? Because the installer detected an OS other than XP. That's all!

Someone actually tweaked the installer .msi to work with Vista and the game played beautifully. The same thing couldn't be done in 7, so I was left with one of my all-time favorites gathering dust forevermore.

Games I've played on 8 so far are UT3 and Borderlands. Can't play much these days, even if I wanted to replay certain games for the 4488554th time xD (probably not because the OS itself, though).
