I purchased Return to Mysterious Island through Steam and whenever I play it, it randomly crashes when right clicking into the inventory. Sometimes this happens soon after loading and sometimes I can play for 10 minutes or so. I get the error message "Return to Mysterious Island has stopped working" ....."will check for solutions". Sometimes it closes without any message at all. I have tried everything I can think of: Updating drivers, registry cleaner, downloaded directX 9, changed resolution on my pc, disabled antivirus, compatibility in every version of windows. :cry:What I don't understand is I play all kinds of games on this Pc, such as Syberia, Fallout 3/new vegas, The elder scrolls, Call of Duty, and similar adventure game like Dark Fall, Myst, Rhiannon, etc. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated due to the fact that Steam does not have a return policy. Thanks.

I have include as attachments: DxDiag and the error report for the last time the game crashed. Hope this helps.

Did you try to reinstall the game?

Your sourcedocx give the following Fault Module Name: ntdll.dll

Found this info about ntdll.dll problems.

Reinstall the program if the ntdll.dll error only displays when you use a specific program.

If the software program has any updates or service packs available, install them too. The software's programmers may have identified an issue with the program that caused the ntdll.dll error and then issued a patch for it.
By reinstalling a software title, be it a productivity tool, a game, or anything in between, you replace all the program files, registry entries, shortcuts, and other files needed to run the program.
If whatever problem you're having with the program is caused by corrupt or missing files (the most common cause of software problems), a reinstallation is very likely to solve the problem

Yes, I actually tried reinstalling the game multiple times. I even went back through my pc and deleted any instance of it after uninstalling and then tried to reinstall with no luck. Could it possibly be that the files Steam is giving are corrupted or missing? I have come in contact with several people on the Steam Forums that are having the same or similar problem. I will try doing some research on whether or not there is a patch for the game, although I have done tons of searches on the subject and have come across none. Thanks for responding so quickly.

While googling around i found some ideas/suggestions

Your download maybe corrupt, has steam the possibilty to download the program again or could you verify the filesizes on steam and your download are the same.

The ntdll.dll may be corrupt. See if you can restore it with SFC / scannow. see tutorial https://www.google.com/url?q=http:/...ds-cse&usg=AFQjCNHYfLaOI07bHFGyUf-OKkUKtXjFJA

The ntdll.dll can be used by several apps/programmes at the same time. When one of these drivers have faults the can give conflicts.
I found:
using Skype at the same time
Plugged in Usb devices like Xbox controller, Camera/ Microfon Headset

Caused by steam running in compatibility mode. Please check the properties of the Steam.exe, your Steam icons, and the games .exe files, and disable any compatibility mode settings.
Sometimes compatibility mode is checked, but is grayed out. Then you have to click on "Change settings for all users" at the bottom to disable the checkbox.
Afterwards try if the game works.

Renaming the configuration file of the game. (Don't know if this also appllies to your game)
Reset the configuration options
1) Open Explorer and browse to My Documents\Mount&Blade Warband\
2) Rename rgl_config.txt to something else.
3) Open Warband and see if it crashes
Renamed the rgl_config.txt file and it's running fine again.

Ok, I ran sfc/scannow several days ago with the intention of fixing this game, but I will run it again to be sure. As for the configuration file. I have a config.ini file but not .txt. Is this the file I should try to rename and if so what should I rename it? I am also downloading the game AGAIN :) on Steam so when it is finished I will check all the compatibility settings. I'll wait for the game to finish downloading before I run the sfc scan again as well.

One question I have is: I have unplugged my controller and the game did the same thing but I forgot the I keep my school disk in the drive all the time (I just forget to take it out) could that be affecting the game?

Well, did another sfc scan and although it said it fixed a corrupt file, the game still closed after a few minutes of playing it. I checked the compatibility too and no luck. If it says there is a problem with a dll file, is there not a way to repair the dll file manually?

I begin to run out of ideas, all i can get think of now is

Scan your computer very deep for a (Root)virusinfection with Ant-Malwarebytes, Tsddkiller etc.

Contact the makers of the game themself

Refresh or Restore windows

I understand, I am about to the point of giving up. But I have been talking to the game support through email who really were no help at all, but they told me the would contact the developers and get back to me. I will try one of the programs you listed and if none of that helps I am just going to except that this game will never work on my pc. I really do appreciate the help and if I do find a fix I will post it here for others who may have the same issue. Thanks again.

I tried the program you suggested and it didn't come up with anything, but I started messing with the configuration of the game and I think I may have fixed it. I got to thinking about how the intro screen flashes a bit on startup and thought it must be a display issue, so I changed my screen resolution to the lowest setting and then went into the game files - compatibility and checked "run in 640 X 480 screen resolution". Then I went in to config.ini and changed it to windowed mode (Fullscreen = 0) and started the game normally. I have played sever times for much longer than it would usually take to close and had no problem. I have to mention, in case someone else uses this info, that Steam and the game file are not "run as admin." I can't thank you enough for all your help.
