Hello. I recently was forced to upgrade my computer from Windows 8 (which was a beautiful gaming experience) to Windows 8.1. Upon attempting to re-download Fallout New Vegas, as well as Skyrim, I received this error:

29kq7eu.jpg

I have tried a fresh install of DirectX, with no luck. Upon attempting to install Entropia Universe, I receive this error:

Once again, after receiving this error, I reinstalled DirectX, once again without results. Any help would be appreciated.

Bump, I've posted this topic on three different boards over the last four days and have yet to receive any input.

  • Where did you get the disk from?
  • And is this the Steam version?

Yes, this is the Steam Version.

Download this.. Download DirectX End-User Runtimes (June 2010) from Official Microsoft Download Center

Create a folder on the Desktop, extract the contents to the folder.

Next, run DXSETUP.exe from the folder on the Desktop. It should install everything you need. Restart your computer then see if you can play.

Upon doing that I received this error:

6g8nqf.jpg

Upon opening the log, I see this:

02/25/14 21:15:58: infinst: C:\WINDOWS\system32\xactengine3_0.dll have been installed already.

That's just the last line, I can post the full log if you'd like. And of course, I tried the game again, and it still does not function. I didn't expect it to.

Open an elevated command prompt and run these commands one at a time:

chdir /d C:\Windows\System32

regsvr32 -u xactengine3_0.dll

Then try to install what EC linked to again.

If it didn't help install, then run this command to put it back:

regsvr32 xactengine3_0.dll

Yes, this is the Steam Version.

Well I'll have to answer my first question... Depending on where you got this game from, it could be missing a file. Kind of an AP scheme. Also I'm not so sure it'll even install (correctly) without steam.

OK, that said... have you tried updating your DirectX files - Download DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer from Official Microsoft Download Center

BTW was it running before the update?

I don't have any sort of disk, as it is a Steam Version. I've reinstalled it several times with steam, and have updated my DirectX files. It was running before the update.

Update your video card driver.

Uh, yeah, I can't believe I left that out, but definitely update the video card drives as ectech points out.

In fact you might also insure you have the latest Windows Updates as well.

Peace

They shouldn't need .NET 3.5 for the games mentioned as they are all Steam based games and thus everything is installed when the game is installed, including the proper DX files. In fact I don't even have .net 3 installed, and my games run just fine....

Steam Games.JPG

Oh, and you can check you .NET installs through Programs and Features and it'll show you all your .NET installs...

This is under Windows 8.1, no tweaks.

All that said, it doesn't hurt to try, but I'm thinking authenticity issues.

Peace

Hmm, this may be an issue for another thread, but when downloading my Graphics Card's driver, it says my computer doesn't have the minimum required specs. I have .NET as well.

Oh, goodie... now you get to re-install your OS ;)

Please be aware that DirectX is now is part of the OS, and that deleting it, or it's registry folders could have dire effects now, and later on. And I'm not surprised that suggestion didn't work. It wouldn't, and all you're doing is messing up the OS.

Oh, and if your computer doesn't meet the minimum specs, especially the video portion, none of those games are going to work.

And is this your video card? Graphics Card L19W961 (1360x768@60Hz) Intel HD Graphics (HP)

The OS works fine, I've been on it for about five hours now. That's my video card, yes. I'm sure my computer meets the specs, because I played the games on high before getting 8.1. The computer doesn't meet the minimum specs when installing the driver Intel chose for me, not the games.
