X-Over? I don't know, they tend to choose names dependent on what seems in and it's a lot easier to pick a new name now than if they'd gone XBOX 360> XBOX 720.

No gaming system should cost as much as a PC!

Please....try gaming on a $499 pc, and let us know how that goes. Considering nice graphics cards...by themselves, cost a as much, I don't see a fully functioning system being the same price that expensive. And these games systems go for a long time too. Look how old the 360 hardware is and still plays modern games.

As a toy it is expensive and all it does is being a toy. A PC on the other hand, is much more than that, "pound for pound" it's many times more expensive than PC. You don't need a $499 GPU to game on PC with even better graphics than on a game machine. My computer for less than double price of a $499 game machine is many things at same time, communication, internet, TV, Typewriter, copy machine, security center AND game machine with possibility for thousands of games, not only ones made just for one thing.

It is what it is and people buy it for what it is. You can debate Gaming PC versus Gaming console till the cows come home. You may not see the value in one but other people do. The Gaming console just works, no installing an OS, messing with drivers, updating drivers, etc. Some people want that. You press the power button and a way you go. And before anybody goes on about the Xbox ring of death, PC's break down too. I game on my PC, many because I can't afford to have both a PC and a gaming console. If I had the money I'd likely have an Xbox.

I agree with you. If I wanted to use a PC for gaming then I would have done that already, but I play my games on consoles because of the convenience. The media capabilities of the consoles also are a plus for me.

Also agree. $500 doesn't get you much for a gaming PC. With that money you can only get an i5 processor, a motherboard, and maybe 16GB of RAM. Then you'll still need a case, PSU, a decent graphics card, a DVD drive, and an operating system to get started.

Assuming you spend the same amount of money on both. Something built to do one thing usually does that one thing very well. Something built to do many things is usually a compromise at best.
