Games for Windows Live connection error on 8.1

When I try to run the client, it tells me that there is a connection error, and I should check my internet connection. Well obviously, just the fact that I am able to post this thread shows that my connection is fine. I would like to reinstall the client, but it doesn't even show up in control panel to uninstall it. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I hadn't heard that. I would still like to be able to play my games online in the meantime though.

While GFWL "may" be shutting down, I'm not sure how this would affect the on-line part integrated into Windows 8/8.1. I think that part remains to be seen.

As for the error, I've been getting the same, but... that's because Microsoft released a new user agreement and wants you to sign in elsewhere and agree to it. There should be a link on the windows asking you to click here. Don't remember the exact details.

Yeah. I had to agree to something on Xbox.com, but I'm still getting the error.

"Connection error: Can't start the program. There may be a problem with your internet connection or the LIVE service.". It gives me the option to troubleshoot, view help file, or close the program. I've tried troubleshooting, all it does is retry the connection, and the help file is not helpful at all.

Believe it or not, I actually have solved the problem. I had an unrelated issue with updating Skype. Just like the GFWL program, it was not visible in uninstall a program in the Control Panel. After some poking around on Google, I found someone who was having the same issue. Someone posted a link to an MS Fix tool, that unfortunately I no longer have, but it wouldn't run on 8.1 anyway. After a bit more poking around, I found the same fixer that was compatible with 8.1, and I was able to successfully uninstall Skype so I could reinstall it and fix the error I was having. To my delight, I was also able to finally uninstall GFWL so I could reinstall it. After messing around with compatibility settings, it is finally running and I can download my games now. What a pain this was. I had given up looking for a solution to fix GFWL, but I hope if anyone else has the same issue, they will find this thread.
