Windows 8 no longer supports screen resolutions with colour depths other than "true colour" (24-bit depth or 16,777,216 colours). 8-bit and 16-bit screen resolutions are emulated in software, and the DirectDraw used in Windows 8 results in unusual behaviour or poor performance in certain older game

:mad:arg...

decided to create a different thread, so it dont get confused with directx games.

this is just like how they removed eax directsound from vista and up. and now directdraw.

and some games dont like directdraw emulation. they refuse to run on it.

this is going to keep people from windows 8.......well people that like to play legacy games.

I tried running the games in vm, but there is latency issues with sound.

what are they doing???

what are they doing???, well dragging us in to the future, kicking and screaming all the way!!! I'm still not sure that future is exactly what I expected or like it but unfortunately time is not waiting. There are good emulators for all kinds of old computers and game machines but all those XP and compatibility modes do not work properly if at all.
