Trying to get Fallout 3 to work

I have done practically everything I can think of to get it moving, but the game will still hang when doing things. I've done absolutely everything and I mean EVERYTHING suggested by Steam users but nothing stops the hangs, and nothing significant pops up in the event viewer.

    Asus G75VX-RH71-CA w/ Core i7-3630QM, 12GB, 750GB, DVD+/-RW, 17.3in FHD, GeForce GTX 670M, Win 8 64-bit at Memory Express specs.

    Nice specs!

    The cpu is familiar.

The game might try to run with the weaker graphics card Intel HD4000 by default.

Instead of double-clicking on the game shortcut or exe, right click on it and choose: run with graphics processor -> Nvidia (or High performance...).

Also make sure the drivers are up to date, especially the graphic ones.

    Good luck.

Those are great specs, you should have no issues whatsoever running an old game like FO3. I think my CPU is the same as yours, you have the newer model G75VX, whereas I have the slightly older G75VW. They are nearly identical in most ways though. I've had my laptop for around 8 months, and it runs great, so I see no need to go burn cash on the G75VX. I'm not sure if your model has just a dedicated NVIDIA card, or NVIDIA+Intel HD 4000, so Hopachi may be correct in saying that the game might be trying to use the weaker of the 2 cards. My laptop has only a dedicated NVIDIA card, so I know for certain that any game I run will use that card since it's the only thing available. As for the game itself, just keep it on highest settings since your PC can beast it, although you may want to consider running the game in a borderless window, which will make it appear to be fullscreen when it really isnt. Bethesda's games have a bad habit of crashing when Alt-Tabbing, borderless window will fix this and make it more stable. And be sure to verify the game's cache files with Steam. That's pretty much all I can think of.

Curious, did you buy the game from Steam or is it from a retail box?

I bought my copy from Steam because it includes all the DLC and is prepatched to the latest version, but what I've said above should also apply to the retail version. They are pretty much identical, for all intents and purposes.

I upgraded the OS from Win 7 to Win 8. I have just played 30 minutes or so and had no issue at all. Mine was bought on Steam too, with all DLC included when it's on sale.

I just had to reset my PC because the game crashed, and caused the whole OS to stop responding with it. This is not the first time= it has done that.
