Steam update from a week ago messed things up

I had a mandatory update of Steam about a week ago, and ever since the when I go to desktop fr about two minutes I get a Steam message saying "verifying update" Literally 2 minutes.

Anyone else have this problem?

I've never heard of it, and it has never happened to me. What you can do is reset Steam by deleting everything in the Steam folder EXCEPT Steam.exe and the SteamApps folder. Then just run Steam again, it will start fresh and update itself again. Hopefully this fixes it. Usually works for me.
