Borderlands & Crysis do not start

It's as the title states. I have tried a fresh install of both after installing Win8. Included are screencaps of both the Reliability Monitor's and Event Log's reports of both.

With Borderlands, which was installed through Steam, I get the launching dialog box, the loading cursor, and then nothing happens. I only determined it was a crash by looking through the Resource Monitor, seeing the error reporting service running, and then through Action Center's Reliability Monitor.

Crysis is the same type of crash, except I don't get any launch dialog box, as it was not installed through or linked to Steam.

For both, I have installed all DirectX 9, 10, and 11 redistributables, as well as all VC++ x86 redistributables.

I have posted the Borderlands issue on the Gearbox forums, as well as opened a ticket with Gearbox tech support.

EDIT: For what it's worth, I searched the problem code "c00000fd" for both, which I found indicates a stack overflow problem. Any ideas/solutions for what would cause this?

Borderlands is an issue that needs to be resolved by the game company. It's a known issue that it won't work on 8 without some serious workarounds. Not sure what to tell you about Crysis, as I don't play it.

Didn't require serious workarounds for me, the game requires a DirectX9 dll to run, I just installed DirectX9 and was able to run Borderlands, I cannot comment on Crysis as I do not have the game myself.

I have tried reinstalling the DX distributables, and it hasn't worked. Tells me that a newer version is already installed. Could you tell me where to get said .dll?

MY friend has a similar issue with trying to install DirectX9, instead he ran this file, you will have to install it and it's entirely up to you whether you trust it or not but it did install the required dlls without the need for Directx9 to be installed, once you have the dlls you can just uninstall the application. The ddl(s) that it installs are d3dx9_24.dll - d3dx9_33.dll.

I downloaded and installed all the .dll's. They were already in the system32 directory, but I copied and replaced them anyway, backing up the originals. The problem still persists as stated.

I have tried compatibility mode for XP, Vista, and 7 with the same issue.
