Games installed on windows 8 runs on low FPS rate

I have an Asus laptop that runs on an i7 processor. It was stocked with a windows 7 home premium OS. Games run smoothly on it, without any lags or low FPS rates.

Then I reformatted it and installed windows 8 pro (clean install). The first week of having win8 pro, games such as NBA 2K12, NFS Hot Pursuit and GTA IV ran smoothly. Then after a week, i noticed that every game, even LoL, ran with a much less FPS. It lags and as if it is impossible to play.

I reinstalled it thinking that it was just an OS problem. but lags still exists. now, i am back to windows 7 pro, and i am able to play games smoothly.

any comments? how can i play games on my laptop smoothly?

Well , what drivers are you using ? , you seems out of luck as Asus don't provide drivers for it. With notebook you better use manufacturers drivers ( asus ) AMD have a tool to check if the generic ( AMD ) driver will work on your laptop .

On a Notebook it's very important to check if the manufacturer as the drivers for Windows 8 before install it, if I was you I will keep Windows 7 until you change your notebook.

Upgrading alone is not enough.

You'll have to update a lot of drivers and re-install Win8 graphics drivers to add WDDM 1.2 support.

And I also recommend the latest Catalyst Profiles for more support of programs.

I installed all the drivers necessary, but the drivers are meant for windows 7, since there are no drivers yet available for windows 8 for my laptop at that time. I also have installed AMD catalyst. I have played some games smoothly at first. but after a week or two, lags have occured while playing games.

i have the same problem but im using desktop computer :
cpu : amd phenom II 3.2 gh
ram:4gb ddr3 (64 bit windows)
gpu: ati hd 4670
i updated drivers from amd site for windows 8 x64 but still low fps on my games that i was playing on windows 7 with high fps

i have tried every possible ways on updating the drivers, especially amd. but the results are still the same. maybe windows 8 are not yet ready for games.

Depends if drivers are available or not, for example my dv7 laptop has drivers for Win8 but not on the manufacturer's website (half of all available drivers are for on Win7 only, but works), but you might be right for some games: use Win7 for the moment, if all runs well.

I have only intels here and just one amd radeon graphics card. Sorry but I'm not much of a help because this mostly regards AMD hardware that I don't have experience with. But if available, you'll need some chipest drivers as well (compared to intel) that are found in Device Manager -> System Devices. Find the right package and update those also: pci-e bridge, cpu bridge... sound important.

Regarding general Win7 and Win8 drivers, see: catalog.update.microsoft.com/
Search there (by device name or hardware-ID found in Device Manager) and you'll get zip/cab official drivers (you might find something or nothing) that need to be installed manually through Device Manager in Windows.

Actually my problem Is fixed now. what I did was disable Hyper-V in the windows features.
