The CCleaner Method works, i run it in compatibility mode for vista and it does show up. I have found another glitch using the minimizing trick, some of my games lag really bad (about 2fps) but if i minimize them and reopen them it stops lagging. All the text has dissapeared in the game, does anyone know what this might be?

Nothing abnormal to note, but you might look at the gpu temperature when you get lags ans see if you have an overheating problem or not.

Use GPU-Z or Speccy or whatever you like for this.

    Just checking the possibilities.

Have you got directx9c installed? Older games (even newer) require it.

    Download DirectX 9.0c (Jun 10) - FileHippo.com

    There for example.

Thanks for the link but it did not make a difference to the games.

This is what the games look like after being minimized. I have to minimize them to make the fps good. If i didnt minimize them they will run at about 2fps.

    Midtown Madness 1:

    Midtown Madness 2:

    The Sims 1:

These are just some of the games i tested.

Are those last ones on 32 bit color mode?

Because I also have serious issues after minimizing on 16bit color mode:
-if you run 16bit color mode in compatibility, Win8 will switch the resolution when you start the game for the first time.
-if then you minimize, the resolution gets back to 32 bit and if you maximize again, the resolution doesn't switch back: all is in very bad color in small screen and the game is not playable at all.

Here are not just some menu's wrong but the whole screen.

    Scenario:
-game is Dune 2000, version 1.06
-compatibility mode: left normally to Win8, color mode is 16 bit (required)
-game runs excellent; minimizing ruins everything.

The same thing doesn't happen on Win7 but Win7 lacks some support in the game with one minor glitch:
-when some building gets destroyed, the screen needs to shake: this is an effect from the game that works on Win98, ME, rarely on some XP, doesn't work on Vista, not in 7 (only in VM's) and surprisingly it works again on Win8.

In general with 16bit color mode programs: this distorted color after minimize-maximize is a serious lag/issue and I hope MS will (at least try to) fix it.

try running compatibility mode to windows 95
try installing windows vista as second os because these games are very old
hmmm maybe old drivers will do it
