I'm having some troubles with Windows 8, I just installed it about a week ago hoping to use the new features!
As I backed up all my files slowly I recovered them back on my desktop.. when I open Minecraft it says:

Bad video card drivers!
-----------------------

Minecraft was unable to start because it failed to find an accelerated OpenGL mode.
This can usually be fixed by updating the video card drivers.

This is not new to me I have 2 other computers that used to have this problem one still does.
Im using an AMD Atjlon X3 450 Processor - 3.20 GHZ
With AMD radeon 1.1 graphics drivers

THINGS I TRIED:

Used more then 36 different driver updates/software's and non of them do the job.

Used OPENGL fixers like "Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00"

Re-installed my drivers

Force updated/deleted bin of Minecraft

Watched countless videos on YouTube looking for some advice on how to fix it... non helped

Googleing for hours trying to find an article... most I've already tried

Updated Windows 8

Installed "Windows Media Pack"

I did everything so I came here hoping for some one on one help!!

I have a full version of Windows 8 Enterprise.

PS~ I donno but Notch - the creater of Minecraft, says some things about windows 8

@notch

Got an email from microsoft, wanting to help "certify" minecraft for win 8. I told them to stop trying to ruin the pc as an open platform.

He also said

I'd rather have minecraft not run on win 8 at all than to play along. Maybe we can convince a few people not to switch to win 8 that way..

I donno what todo maby its not my fault and Windows 8 is not made for Minecraft..

All and all I really need some help and I don't want people being mean or asking ? I already said above :geek: ^

It's his problem with MS, not us.

O.K back to your problem:
1. Have you updated graphics driver?
2. Have you tried to run Minecraft in compatibility mode to Windows 7?

Yes I did say earlier that I did with the drivers it didn't work...
I don't understand what you mean by: run Minecraft in compatibility mode to Windows 7
How do you do that? do you want me to go back to windows 7?

Don't Bother with compatibility mode since that will not help with your OPEN GL problem.

MineCraft works for me.
I did the upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 8 (64 Bit).
I also installed Java (32 and 64 bit).
I don't have AMD ATI but since I have NVIDIA, NVIDIA provided the new driver for me.

The error points to Open GL error. Open GL is not provided by Windows (Direct x is the interface to Graphics).
Graphic Card drivers provide that support.

It means the current driver you have does not have OPEN GL or is incorrectly implemented due to driver not designed for the OS.

I check your System Specs you don't list your Card except that it is AMD ATI.
If it is old then the only driver available to you would be AMD ATI Legacy Driver.
AMD Catalyst

If you go into your app data and into your .minecraft folder you can turn off open GL in the options file(not sure exactly what it is called maybe properties) that should at least let you play it till you figure out your problem.

it all has to do with the OpenGL driver provided by your graphics card manufacturer. If you have an older ATI/AMD or Nvidia card and it's not working, most likely AMD/Nvidia is pushing you to get a newer graphics card. Their older cards are not getting updated drivers. They're considered legacy devices.

Yes.
Older cards may not receive an update that includes OpenGL (or a version required by minecraft).

Minecraft work fine with my i3-2120 and the Intel CPU Integrated Video

May not work properly on GMA950 series.
Like i said, older gpu may not get OpenGL update in its driver.

Update Java

It has nothing to do with OPENGL....for people that are still looking for a solution.

Make sure you have the newest version of Java as well as the 64bit if your using a 64bit system.

This thread is now fixed.... :p

Not sure if OpenGL is the culprit but it's best to cover all of the bases; don't want to rule anything out that may be the actual cause of problems. Also, don't jump to conclusions too early please... :sleepy:

Back to the topic...

DoJo Master, update OpenGL if you haven't, if that doesn't fix the issue try to disable "Advanced OpenGL in Minecraft Video Settings if it's enabled.

Have you run Minecraft on this PC before Windows 8?
