Halo CE Resolution Problem

Hello everyone, I recently installed windows 8 and I have encountered an issue while playing the game Halo CE.
I cannot switch the game resolution higher than 1024 x 768 pixels for some reason.
The available choices are:
640 x 480 (60 hz)
800 x 600 (60 hz)
1024 x 768 (70 hz)

Normally the game is capable of rendering at 1600 x 900 pixels.
I have played this game before on WinXP and the resolution went beyond 1024 x 768 pixels.

You seem to be running a fairly low (4:3) resolution on your desktop according to these pictures. You mentioned 1600x900, is that your monitor's native resolution? Because your current screenshot resolution does not match any common resolutions that LCD panels tend to use (1280x960 was more a CRT resolution, many LCDs went with the 5:4 1280x1024 resolution instead).

When you right click the desktop and pick "screen resolution", what resolution choices do you have there? Chances are you may be one of those people having problems with Windows 8 not detecting your monitor's EDID for proper resolution listings. I dunno if the Intel HD settings let you create custom resolutions like nvidia/ati control panels do, but if you can, try manually adding your monitor's native resolution (at 60hz).
