Solved Windows 8 - USB Drivers Signature Issue

I have been using Windows 8 64-bit Build 9200 [DEL](RC)[/DEL] (RTM) on a laptop device for about 3 or 4 weeks and everything has been working great!

I am not sure when it happened, but this morning I noticed that the USB ports were not working...
I changed the hard disk to a Win7 64bit and the USB ports were working perfectly...

Went back to my Win8 and looked at the device manager USB and found all ports had an exclamation, and the following message was on each of them:
Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52)
I am not sure what happened! -- I know the USB ports were working as I used them to restore data and apps. I also performed a system restore point, but that did not seem to work

So before performing a fresh install, I want to ask this community for an opinion:

1) What can I do ? Is the a restore or "repair" in Win8?
2) Is this something that you may be aware of ?

Cheers
Jorgen

You could do that PC refresh thing.

Or reset - same as reinstall.

Much better if you had made an image already - doesn't sound like it.

Anything you think may have caused that - did you do/install anything just before?

Thanks for the reply - I really can not think of anything... Everything I've installed Offiec 2013, Skype and such is pretty straight forward.. I will reinstall and reimage and watch it closely moving forward... I will also make a backup copy :)
fortunatelly just lost configuration time..

THANK YOU for this pointer!! this is good best practice to have handy!

Unfortunatelly I did not have a custom recovery image created.

I end up re-installing Windows 8 and after installing all the apps, created one and moved it to a DVD. --

This was a good learning experience! :)

Not sure what the point of a Custom Refresh image is really.

It is quicker and easier to create a system image - 3rd party free programs abound.

More flexible, too.

If you haven't made a custom refresh image , I believe you can point it at the installation media and it uses install.wim.

Iirc it is similar to a clean install in some ways - but keeps your user folder, settings and ms app.
