Solved Trackpad Problem - Toshiba Satellite Laptop

I upgraded from Win7Pro to Win8Pro x86 saving all settings.

The trackpad on my laptop is not functioning properly - the cursor jumps to a new location every time I touch the pad.

E.G. if I am dragging the cursor down the page, I draw my index finger down the trackpad as usual - this gets me half-way to where I want to go, so naturally I remove my index finger from the pad, and do the same thing, drawing my finger down the pad again, but the second I touch the track pad the second time the cursor jumps back up to the top of the page instead of staying put.

Why doesn't the cursor stay where it is when I take my finger off of the trackpad and then touch it again? I did not have this problem with Win7 - the driver is up-to-date, no changes there. I tried disabling "center on dialogue box) option for the trackpad but nothing works.

Anyone?

I just answered my own question here - if anyone is interested.

I uninstalled driver and rebooted to have Windows 8 install standard driver - everything worked fine except no scrolling.

I tried a few Synaptics drivers specific to my laptop for Windows 7, but the cursor would freeze after 5 minutes or so.

Installed driver from here: Drivers | Synaptics

I now have full functionality of my trackpad and the driver is stable.

Bought a new laptop yesterday with Windows 8 OS, when I try to use the touchpad on the laptop to move the cursor about the screen, it does not move as I want and this morning it has gone completely. Any suggestions?

Look in device manager first to see that the pad is functioning - not so easy to do w/o mouse if you're not familiar w/ Windows 8 interface

{windows key}+Q
arrow down to "Settings" on the right
Type in "Device Manager"
Tab to Device manager to select and enter
Tab, then arrow down to "Mice and other pointing devices"

See if device is functioning - my guess is since you just bought it the pad may have been loosely connected on the inside but this will tell you more - If no flags, Uninstall driver, then restart. Windows will automatically load a driver for the device. If this doesn't work and the device is functioning normally, you may need to try downloading a driver from the manufacturer.
