Solved Razer Nostromo programming?

I've got a Razer Nostromo on my main PC that I use for gaming, but after the Windows 8 install, the Razer programming software won't recognize the pad. It shows up correctly under devices, but the programming software gives the error of "No Razer Nostromo Connected. Application will close now." and then exits.

So far I've tried pretty much all the compatiblity options (admin, winxp, win7, etc). I've tried both the drivers that came with the pad, and I've also tried the drivers that Windows pulls down from the repository. I even went so far as to install several virtual machine packages (Hyper-V, Vmware & VirtualBox) + windows xp (only one I can force the pad over to the virtual machine with is Virtualbox, and it works perfectly under that VM, software detects it, and will program it, but once you switch OUT of VB, it reverts to the default programming).

At one time I had the older version of this pad (Belkin N52TE), and it stored the settings in nvram on the pad, I could move it over to my laptop and the programming moved with it. But for whatever reason, Razer decided to remove the nvram and make it completely dependent on their software for programming :(.

Anybody out there got one of these, and were able to get the Razer software to recognize it on Windows 8? Or anybody have any ideas on making it work?

I tracked down a version of their software that will actually program the little beastie, v1.03 of the Nostromo software apparently will see the device under Windows 8 (funny that v2.02, the lastest won't). Exported profiles from the 2.0x versions aren't compatible with 1.0x, but I can live with that.

Link to the drivers if anybody needs them:

your link is broken, and I can't find the 1.03 drivers anywhere (all just redirect to razerzone.com).

I reckon with that driver, you could edit INIs to use the old driver with the new programming interface, maybe?

still searching for legit 1.03 DL links...

If you find a way to get the 2.02 drivers to work with this, let me know but I pulled a blank (tried 2.0 and 2.02).

yeah, no luck. I'm back to the 1.03s as well. best solution for porting profiles I could come up with was to take lame screenshots on my 2008 server. luckily I keep exports already on a shared drive for importing ease or for when I wipe my box, and so I just loaded the 2.02 drivers on my server, imported the profiles, and took pics... then recreated them on the 1.03s... lame, but it worked:

That's pretty much what I had to do, but I need to record some macros for some keys (since the old version won't let you make a say ctrl-1 a key, it's a SINGLE keypress). It looks pretty much like this is a slightly expanded version of the software for the N52TE, they better get on the ball with the updated drivers/firmware, or even put this into their Synapse software (I'm really, REALLY surprised it's not already).

They need to do this sooner rather than later, I'm in the market for a new headset (looking at either a megalodon, or their new one, but hate the neon green, lol), but if they can't support their old hardware quick enough, I'll look elsewhere...

This is what I got from tech support:

Hello David,

None of our products are supported on Windows 8 since it has not yet officially released. Possibly around the time of the official release there will be an updated driver.

What you may want to try:
1. Uninstall the driver
2. Reboot
3. Then enable compatibility mode:
1. Right-click on the installation file
2. Choose properties and you will see the Admin and Compatibility mode settings there in the Compatibility tab.
-Run it in Windows XP Service Pack 2 mode.
-Also in the Privilege Level section check the Administrator mode box
4. Reinstall by
1. Right-clicking on installation file and running it as Administrator.
5. Run configurator
1.By enabling compatibility mode on it as described earlier from the start menu Razer folder and enable administrator on it as well.
Please let us know if this helps.

Is yours the razer nostromo, a belkin n52, or a belkin nostromo n52te? If it's NOT a razer branded nostromo, these drivers won't work. If it's a N52TE you'll need drivers from Belkin (which are actually written by Razer).

All I did was install the v1.03 software on the system and it started working. You may try remove all traces of the v2 software from the PC, and also go into the system devices and remove any razer nostromo devices you find (check the box to remove the drivers as well), then reinstall 1.03. Otherwise if that doesn't work, you may have to wait for Razer to get on the ball and get drivers released (but they seemed to indicate to me that they wouldn't have anything out until after 8 was officially released to the public).

I have also come into the same problem as the rest of you with Win8. I've tried contacting Razer with a similar outcome. I have installed the 1.03 driver and the software does run; however, I will add that I am having an issue with the macro function. No matter what the delay is that I choose between macro'd keystrokes, the timing is always the same. Although it is nice to have it working, the lack of this feature is debilitating. Have any of you experienced the same problem with a successful 1.03 driver install in Win8?

i have 2.02 drivers up and running without any troubles.
device is razer nostromo (not belkin) with firmware 1.02
simply installed driver and it works (it was a couple of months ago, just after installing win8 - release preview).
also worked flawlessly with w8 CP.

do u have it connected directly to port on your motherboard, or through any hub or sth?
i found that some devices don't work correctly when connected through a hub or ports in my pc case (on windows8, w7 was ok)

I can plug it in and it work too, BUT I can't run the 2.02 version and actually PROGRAM the pad. Try running the Nostromo application and see if it sees the pad, or if it says there's no Razer Nostromo attached...

If all you're using is the default programming it'll work just fine with 2.02, otherwise you'll have problems with it detecting (I've tried every version I could get my hands on, and the only version that I could find that worked is the linked v1.03 version above).

So happy to find that I'm not the only person suffering from this. I kinda got the impression that the Nostromo was something of a fringe device, and the number of owners who were also W8 early adopters would be tiny.

But anyways, if this works I'd be overjoyed. Only thing is, I can't get any of the download links posted to work. If someone were to host this on dropbox or something I'd be eternally grateful.

[DEL]I'm also having the same trouble with my Naga, so if anyone has the old drivers for that (which would hopefully work the same way), I think that would make my double rainbow.[/DEL]

Curiously, these problems only arose when I got Pro version, they both worked absolutely fine on the release preview.

*Update* Managed to find version 2.01 of the Naga driver, but the old Nostromo drivers remain elusive.

*Update 2* After a few days searching, finally found someone posted a link to a hosted version. I re-uploaded to my dropbox for the benefit of any future unfortunates: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/42363058/Razer_Nostromo_Driver_v1.03.zip

Having same issue. I just did the retail upgrade to Windows 8 Pro and now my Nostromo isn't recognized by the configuration app ver 2.02. Ver 1.03 does work but as mentioned before there are delay issues and its sometimes craps out when 2+ macros going at once.

Thanks FrightfulPotato for the drivers. I'm in the same shape as VetGamer79 1.03 works, barely, but is sluggish sometimes and macros quit easily. Razer desperately needs to update these to work with win 8, there is no other gaming pad that i like compared to this one. :(
