Nope, I doubt the WinRT version of Windows 8 will be released for use. Even if it did, lack of driver support kills that notion.

Does anyone if it is possible to jail break the first gen iPad and install win 8 on it?

Hi there
What CPU or processor does the IPAD have -- I doubt if it's one that Windows will work on even if you DO jail break it.

What you *Could* try is to see if you can get some sort of Linux to work on it - then install VBOX and then you might get W8 running as a Virtual Machine -- but I doubt that even if this is possible the performance would be anything better than 100% hopeless,

However as an interesting sidelight - I've managed to get "Windows 8 to go" working by booting up from a SMARTPHONE connected to a computers USB port. Works fine -- the OS runs off the external micro sd card in the phone !!! the phone software together with Windows just recognizes the external card as another usb drive.

When the phone is plugged in the computer recognizes two separate disks anyway - internal and external memory cards. The BIOS finds the one with the boot mechanism on it and the computer boots from the mobile phone. -- Great "Toy" to play with -- running Photoshop from Windows 8 on a Mobile phone's sd card. !!!

The Android system in the phone doesn't bother with the Windows boot file. The phone is just acting as "an Intelligent terminal" rather than a dumb piece of static hardware.

The phone can still be used for making calls etc even when the Windows to go system is running. !!!

Cheers
jimbo

From what I heard - It's technically possible. However,

1. The hackers will have to find a exploit to untether jailbreak, which is real hard.
2. They will have to do a lot of trial and error process which will take ages.
3. Drivers, it would take a "long" time to make display, sound, button, usb, bluetooth, wifi, 3g, cpu, graphic card, calibration, etc etc etc etc etc WHILE they don't even have source code for ios driver.
4. THEY WILL NOT GET PAYED cause people who jailbreak is most likely to just crack it. Also, business customers will certainly not accept that kind of approach.
5. They will have to do step 1~2 every single time Apple releases updated version, which happens pretty frequently.

WHY THE *bleep* WOULD THEY WANT TO DO IT?

Hmm, probably worth waiting a month after release so that people will try out.
