Hey everyone. I couldn't find an area that matched up to my question exactly - perhaps I should have posted in off-topic?
This doesn't apply to Windows 8 specifically, but I have a question regarding writing zeros. I used the most recent WD-Diag utility to write zeros to a drive. (I did choose the extended erase, not quick erase.) Not only is the label of the drive still there, it still appears to be "formatted", as in it's still a usable drive in Windows. This doesn't sound right to me. Back in my tech days, I remember writing zeros to drives and afterwards they had to be re-partitioned and reformatted before use. Am I dreaming this, or did WD-Diag not do what it was supposed to do? Did something change over the years? Thanks in advance.
