:sick::sick:

Here is where I am at (a bit screwed) ASUS MotherBoard H97M-E

HOW do I scour ALL of the "old" HP-110 / AMD device DRIVERS off of the HardDrive ?
I want to KEEP the WINDOWS-8.1 Operating System (but very little ELSE)

I had a viable HP-110 (cheap bargain basement) computer powered by an AMD CPU chip with WINDOWS-8.1 Computer with a VALID Operating system

The HP-110 computer had an AMD CPU soldered to the Motherboard thus NOT easily UPGRADED

The Tower CASE & PSU & DVD Writer & RAM were all sound ... so I purchased an ASUS motherboard + i5 Intel CPU & 24 gb RAM

This combo surfs the internet quite swiftly & everything WORK fine except the USB ports (both USB 2.0 & USB 3.0)

Not a single USB port is functioning ... they have POWER & will actually CHARGE any device plugged into them

BUT ... will NOT recognized the DEVICES on the other end of the USB cable

(Did I mention that each and EVERY thing in this SYSTEM works & Works WELL ? (except the USB Ports) ?

I uninstalled the USB Drivers & Reinstalled the USB drivers - BOTH from the DVD & from the ASUS website - NOPE !

I called ASUS Customer Support & they walked me through the same procedures that I had already performed on my own = to NO avail

Requested & was GRANTED an "RMA" number & sent the bare Motherboard in to ASUS for diagnosis & / or REPAIR

Got the Motherboard back = Nothing found defective ...

I rebuilt the SYSTEM & fired it up (this time with NO extra USB front panel USB ports plugged in - only USB ports I allowed were the Hard-Wired back panel Motherboard USB Ports) = still the device DRIVERS were Corrupt or not functional

My supposition is that the OLD (now unused / unnecessary ) HP-110 computer & AMD processor Device Drivers are still installed & getting in the way of ( & interfering) with the NEW Device Drivers from ASUS & the NEW MotherBoard ...

Is there any way to SCOUR all the INSTALLED Device Drivers to uninstall them (while preserving the WINDOWS-8.1 Operating System intact) ?

Please ADVISE

So You changed the MOBO in a OEM Factory Built PC and expect the OS to Still be Activated ?

I swap OS drives from AMD to Intel CPUs, AMD to NVidia, GPUs and vice versa and Never had a problem with drivers.

Yup - That's the case ... the OPERATING System ( in the instance WINDOWS-8.1 64 bit) was recognized & works perfectly in ALL & EVERY Respect ... except for the USB ports are useless ... and THESE daze --- USB is everything !

So ... just trying to SCOUR / REMOVE all the OLD unused OEM drivers from HP & AMD so that the ASUS OEM drivers can take over & discover my USB ( both USB-2.0 & USB-3.0 ) PORTS ... any help on REMOVING any / all previously installed Device Drivers ???

It won't load drivers for hardware that's not there so no need to try and remove them the problem is it needs the new drivers which you need to download but it's likely it won't activate as strictly speaking it's a pirate copy as it was OEM tied to a specific pc

Well ... that being said ... every (EVERY) other ASUS driver works "perfectly" ... the VIDEO / AUDIO / NETWORK / there is NOTHING that doesn't "WORK" perfectly (except the USB Ports) ...

And

ASUS insists that there is (of course) nothing WRONG with their MOTHERBOARD ... $$$$$ spent ... two weeks down time ... allegedly ASUS tested the MotherBoard at their INDIANA facility & gave it a passing GRADE & returned it to me --- with everything working (except the USB Ports)

the ERROR (trouble) REPORT that I receive in DEVICE MANAGER is as FOLLOWS:

under the Universal Serial Bus Controllers: all have a gray TriAngle with a bright Yellow EXCLAMATION POINT inside (indicating CORRUPT or MISSING device driver)

Intel(r) 9 series chipset family USB enhanced host controller - 8CAD

Intel(r) 9 series chipset family USB enhanced host controller - 8CA6

Intel(r) 9 series chipset family USB xHCI host controller - 8CB1

of COURSE these DEVICES have all been "UNINSTALLED" & REINSTALLED many Many MANY Multiple times & REINSTALLED from the ASUS provided motherboard DVD & then again many Many MANY times from the appropriate ASUS website

I simply can NOT wrap my head around how a MicroSoft ( WINDOWS-8.1 ... 64 bit) Operating System can be so "BRANDED" to an OEM manufacturer that the USB ports can NOT be made to work ... obviously the BIOS should be in CHARGE of these functions ...

Your OS is NOW consider PIRATED and NO HELP can be given on This Forum. You WILL LOSE ACTIVATION in the near future. Never had a MOBO that came WITHOUT a Drivers Install Disc ? Must be some New policy ?

Another forum I was once quite active on, (MyDigitalLife) had a problem where links were posted to "Homebrewed type ISOs". DMCA hit with Not just a request for the links to be removed, or even just a single thread. The Entire Section had to be taken down and restarted :(

IMHO Only, sometimes I think the rules Here are enforced a little too harshly, but The Rules are The Rules so I accept them.

the FORUM can't HELP anyone if it gets taken down

I understand TECHNICALITIES

I was just not aware that the OPERATING System that I bought & Paid for ... on a HDD that came on the SYSTEM that I bought & Paid for ... and had to CHANGE the Motherboard that I had to PAY for TWICE (once IN the System & then the ASUS replacement MB ... could ever be considered "PIRATED" ... is there a reference to this in OUR "TOS" ?

Just asking

My ASUS motherboard came with a fine DVD with software & Drivers included ... but ... they did NOT solve the inoperative USB situation ...

NOPE---my girlfriend has been using this SYSTEM with the NEW motherboard & the "OLD" everything else for several MONTHS now ... just without her USB Ports working...Microsoft has not made a "PEEP" about us changing the MotherBoard ... & I would never expect them to be concerned over a maintenance or replacement part situation ...

The forum rule on this comes down to it being intentional piracy or not, and if understood as piracy.

In this specific case, I would say it leans towards the term "illegal" instead of "known piracy".

We can provide help to have it be a legally activated installation again.

We cannot help in anyway ever to keep the illegal activation.

Intentional piracy is usually dealt with by a permanent ban.

Thanks guys ...

I don't know if this HELPS or is even pertinent ... this system (with the ORIGINAL motherboard) was put in service & activated by Microsoft several years ago ...

The replacement MOTHERBOARD (an ASUS item) was installed late last YEAR (November 2016) and has been in continuous usage on the INTERNET with absolutely no complaint from MICROSOFT whatsoever

I'm confused by the supposition that my REPLACEMENT motherboard would in any way VOID my WINDOWS-8.1 authenticity

My only complaint was that the USB ports refused to install properly

Again ... with much RESPECT ... please advise

In my past experience with WINDOWS - MICROSOFT has been quite lenient with REPLACEMENT Parts including the Motherboard, PROCESSOR, RAM, VIDEO CARDS, SOUND Cards, etc ... and would tolerate quite a few PARTS being REPLACED or "UPDATED" and still consider the OPERATING SYSTEM to be VALID ... as long as their OPERATING SYSTEM was ONLY being run on one COMPUTER ... which is exactly MY case ... remember ... my only inquiry was HOW to get the USB ports to function on the (NEW) ASUS motherboard (and falsely believing that the OLD "drivers" were interfering with the newly installed ASUS drivers) for the USB Ports ... nothing underhanded or tricky being done here ...

COOP,

A Windows license (product key) is tied to the motherboard. That is why you're able to change other hardware without affecting activation.

An OEM license is permanently tied to the motherboard it was first activated on, and is not transferable to a new motherboard (PC) like a retail license would be.

By installing a new motherboard on an OEM PC, you'll need to purchase a new Windows product key.

OVERUSE of CAPILIZATIONS makes for a Very Hard read for someone with old people eyes and brain damage.

M$ is pretty Desperate to get people on Win 10, so maybe they're just ignoring the OS activation for Now ??

As posted previously, the old drivers don't have anything to do with the problem. Now, The Factory installed Bloatware could be a different matter ? Dancing around some things, I'd suggest getting a second HDD and Cloning the OS to it. Put the Clone in and after putting the last Win 8.1 ISO on it, mount it and run setup as Admin. Do a reset install keeping Nothing and see if You still have the USB problems ? If that doesn't work then try a Fresh Install onto the spare HDD. *You could run something like Belarc Advisor to find and write down the Win 8 activation Key.*

Thanks guys

I will try a few of those solutions & get a new activation key if required

Much appreciated for all the directions that I might be able distill a USB solution

You could try removing all the Factory Bloatware first ? If You do a reset or fresh install there'll be a Lot of updates to install. Below are the ones I personal have "Hidden".

Great Idea --- I went to the ADD / REMOVE Programs and located TWO "unused" Anti-Virus trial versions

a TRIAL version of WIN-ZIP

ADOBE Acrobat Reader ... I use "FOX-IT Reader"
&
Lots of other unnecessary TRIAL-WARE

Removed a lot of crap ... which got rid of the constant "NAGGING" too ;)

Since this was my girlfriend's computer I had never L@@K'd at what was Lurking on her HDD

Thanks
