Here are 11 free driver update programs. I just tried number 1, Driver Booster and I really like it. It found 10 outdated drivers on my system. After I updated the drivers, I have not experienced any BSOD or ill effects.

I just have to warn you that in the past I've tried some of the other programs on the list and they came bundled with adware and other nastiness. You have to be careful where you download the program from. Go to the program's official website and download it from there. Whenever I want to download a program, I now do a Google search for "official website" and the name of the program. When installing, read each screen carefully and uncheck any Toolbars, free offers, or other adds.

Driver Booster didn't come with any adware. I've tried and like DriverMax. With DriveMax, it has a feature to backup and restore your drivers. That can come in handy if you ever wanted to do a clean install. The only thing I didn't like was you could only update one driver each day. They have a paid version that will update them all at once. I once upgraded a PC from Win XP to Win 7. DriverMax was the only program to find and install the correct sound driver. At the time I didn't download DriverMax from its official website, so it did come bundled with adware. I was careful installing it and unchecked any offers.

I've also tried SlimDrivers. I didn't like the program at all. I did a clean install on my wife's laptop and SlimDrivers restore feature simply didn't work. Luckily I also backed up the drivers with DriversMax and that worked great. SlimDrivers also came bundled with adware.

The only recommended way to source drivers is from the manufacturers site, or from Microsoft where these are supported hardware. It's also sometimes possible to obtain items Built in to the motherboard (Sound, Video Drivers), from the manufacturer of the chip, although even here it's best to use those supplied by the motherboard manufacturer, as these are usually tuned to the Motherboard.

I, (and thousands of other experienced members of these forums), would never recommend the use of any of these "snake Oil" driver programs which are more often a cause of driver issues than a cure.

For Lenovo drivers visit the Lenovo site as their drivers will be correct

I agree with Nigel. Just because a driver is outdated does not mean it needs to be updated. If your notebook is not broke, don't fix it. If broke, use Windows Update or visit the hardware maker's site for the latest drivers.
