How do I boot from a thumb drive?

I have an H4 series Lenovo desktop. I cannot figure out any way to get it to boot from a flashdrive. I appears to be set up to go to a CD first but I can't find a way to add USB thumb drive before the OS in the boot sequence. Anybody know how?

Thanks for your reply.

If I understood that procedure it must be done in a working Windows envoronment and will only allow you to boot to the USB drive once using Restart. That is, you cannot power off the computer and still boot to the USB drive. I need to change it so every time the computer starts it uses CD or USB if present. I'm trying to repair the boot record using a tool on a flashdrive.

You can also do so from boot.

You should be able to press the F12 key at boot for your PC to access the boot menu to select what device to boot from.
