DVD drive will not read dvd in windows 8.1

Media in CD/DVD drive is not readable (TSSTcorp CDDVDW SU-208GB) Not fixed Not Fixed

The drive is empty or the media format is not supported.

my drive worked fine yesterday I did a uninstall on the driver and reinstalled that didn't work. I

did a system restore that didn't work.
I tried to do the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1

-08002BE10318} where you check for the UpperFilters or LowerFilters value I don't have that on my

registry

I assume this is in a Laptop? No System Spec's filled in so we can only guess.

Is there any error status in the Device Manager for this device? Error Code 19 is for the filters.

Is the device detected in the BIOS?

Try another uninstall, in the Device Manager then reboot and it will be detected and reinstalled when Windows starts. If it still will not work, I would suspect a hardware problem with the drive.

There are no 3rd party drivers for CD/DVD drives, just the default built in Windows drivers.

Try cleaning the Laser lens and see if that helps.
