Solved Dual Monitoring

I just bought a VGA Splitter for my Desktop, but it only let me view a mirror screen from my 1st monitor.
can someone please help me configure my setting? what I want to accomplish is Dual monitor for different purpose like while I'm playing a game on the 1st monitor, I can still watch movies on the 2nd monitor.
I have red some thread and ask some technicians about it and they told me that what I want is possible.

You need a graphics card that is capable of supporting twin monitors and is fitted with suitable pair of connectors for the monitors you are intending to use.

Thanks for responding! well, I got this Sapphire Nitro r7 360 video card. I'm not that techie tho,

OK, that card has three outputs
a display port can if it is supported by your monitors, use a Daisy chain system to run two monitors simply
If your monitors only support a VGA D plug you will need adaptors to connect two of the outputs to the monitors (1 to each monitor) if your monitors support a selection of ports say 1 supports HDMI and the Other DVI-I you would need the relevant cables if both support HDMI you can get a converter from DVI to HDMI .

One you have your monitors connected you need to go into the catalyst control panel, The graphics set-up screens and choose to Extend the monitors rather than Mirror them.

This will give you two monitors each of which can display a game or Video application

but I don't have those cables yet, the only cable I've purchased is the VGA Splitter (Y Cable - Color Blue). so I still to purchase some cables again to make it? and if yes, will my Y cable be useless?

The Y cable is used to display the same image to two monitors for example in a bar or restaurant that show the same information or show - a Y cable would allow this but not allow the screens to show different images.

You will require specific cables to allow you to Extend the screens - you may want to take a picture of the back of your computer and the backs of the monitor to use as a reference when finding the cables.

Thank you SO much! I'm much more enlighten now but a bit sad about the Y Cable. I think I'll have to buy another cables then. one more question tho, what about the thing similar to router? some thing that they called HDMI router I think?

do I still need that to make an extended display for my dual monitor?

You have three outputs on your graphics card - any two of which can drive a monitor with the use of a suitable cable or Cable plus adaptor, so you should not need a HDMI splitter unless you are connecting from more than one source to a monitor with only one HDMI port, eg. connecting a PC and a DVD Player to a monitor that only has a single HDMI socket

If you have a choice I would go for Display port, then DVI/HDMI then VGA as the quality of image is normally in that order with Display ports being best and the VGA the worst
